Since a few days, a Belarus citizen can be fined for about half of his salary for visiting a foreign website.

(an article of many)

Discuss. While we can.

I don't think it will fly, if it will...OMG !!!

Forget the Amazon example, what about all the young people, who just surf the internet. A lot of sites in US are based in CA, imagine if it would be forbidden for other states to connect to sites based in CA?

It might be harsh, but cut off Belaruss, Moldova and Ukrain from Russian food and other supplies for 6months and observe them crumble to pieces.

Well, the law is now in effect. And their government already prosecuted like 1600 users in the past for visiting a website of the local political opposition.

I smell civil war....even worse total collapse of the social structure. Imagine if you freaking play Freelancer there...hahaha...no more porno, movies, music...back to stone age, Belarus...

Piligrim, so now what? The internet will cost thousands of dollars now? Or will it be limited to Belorus internet only? Something like WAN through the Belarus republic?:)

Tell us how it is now, since you are there...

Like any other post-soviet state, the Belarus is not really capable of enforcing most of its brand new laws regarding information exchange, copyright or internet, therefore it would be only used to jail the economical and political opponents of Batko and his friends like its done in Russia.

Amazon users got really nothing to worry about. Freelancer players too.

Good to hear it's not as bad as it seems from the international press. Guess neither they can read those strange characters. :)

Things are not that really bad with the internet. The opposition sites and independent newssites are already blocked, but we have Tor and Opera Turbo:cool:The prices for Internet are still acceptable, though rather high. The main things that make me RAEG happen on our squares and in prisons, where political leaders of the opposition are. It's not so much about Internet...

EDIT: I predict a lock)

Well, one could guess not even Belarus wants to have, hmm, 75% of it's population to be criminals, huh?

Also, politics detected! IBTL!

In a brilliant tactical movement, i charged backwards.
