I'm still rather new to the discovery mod, but I was wondering if there are places where one can mine and expect to make decent money. I was thinking of making my RP character make money the old fashion way, by mining. But anyway I would like to know if this is a realistic idea for purposes other than RP, and if not, perhaps this is why I keep reading all around that mining factions seem to not be so popular.

Yes you can mine in most asteroid fields and belts. To make it profitable, you need to know where you can get good money for your resources. Also try making a deal with trader to come to your mining spot, and take resources to planet/base, and come back. After split the earnings.

Keep reading and I would suggest you to integrate the so called mining operations with roleplay, which would obviously make it something different from a boring routine mouse clicking..

I was more thinking of having mining to be a bit of a hobby, maybe find a few others to join me, think fishing.

Kruger Minerals will pay you a good 1,500,000 credits for every 2500 diamonds you mine in Dresden, which is 600 credits per diamond, and 750,000 credits for every 2500 silver you mine in Omega-7, which is 300 credits per silver. That is my offer if you want to work for us, and is double what the local mining station would pay you.

Yes, I realize I would lose money this way, but for the sake of good RP, I'd definitely like to do it. Its just like hiring escorts even when I know there are no pirates in the area...

If you are a junker miner, then you should check that junker station at omega 15... I believe? It's the junk metal heaven.

That place is rigged. Seriously. It buys scrap for uber, and there's like 40 wrecks RIGHT OUTSIDE that have the odd expensive hardware attached... I'm surprised it isn't whored.

I agree. About 3 days after joining discovery a player escorted me out there and I went from level 20 something to level 42 in about 25 min. As much as I enjoy milking it, its obviously 'broken' as a game concept, especially on a RP server, and should probably be adjusted in future versions of the mod.

well, I heard junkers protects the place jealously when they are on.
But, I admit the prices are slightly high.

I will consider it, although at the moment I'm working to purchase a miner.
