If we assume that the text-talk we have to use for freelancer, can represent the; "talking with the little picture" that npcs do, then typing an emoticon is surely an inrp way of making a facial expression via that window?

Nope. OORP. Who says a ship has visual comms? Maybe voice only.

What if you only have a text messaging system onboard?

The fact that the npcs talking to you have visual coms which come up in a little window, at the top. Yknow, like I said in my first post. If you had actually read it.

Then dont type emoticons, the point is that for people who DO rp having visual coms, it should be allowed. Hell, if your ship is equipped with a text only coms device, then theres no reason not to use emoticons in prcisely the way we do!

I don't mind people using them and I wouldn't even dream about sanctioning someone who did. I just never used them myself..

What if I'm RPing as a teenager whose ship only has text transmit capabilities, no voice? What's wrong with emoticons then?

Then you break a rule. Right now they are not allowed.
