Hi I figured out how to do something with engine kill and I was wondering if it was allowed. What I did was I killed my engine and then hit the thrusters and it keeps your speed up but not over the limit. Is this allowed or no?

I hope it is allowed as it is a stable combat tactic that has been used since Freelancer went multiplayer. If it isn't allowed, then 99% of the server ought to be banned. Eg: I think you're fine.
Well I personally use it as well, and i know a alot of people that use it as well. So it should not be illegal, as its a tactic in fighting.

You mean hold down thruster, hit engine kill, let off thruster?
Boy, if that was illegal 98.7% of the server would be banned. It doesn't get close to speedmod velocities, and isn't cheating. The speed rules are for what is basically a hack handed out with a tool necessary to install Discovery.
EDIT: Come to think of it, the closest thing you can do to speedmodding using engine kill is to get into catchup speed and hit 'z'. But that's still not fast (even if it doesn't take you down to 350 automatically, which I think it does) and doesn't let you steer.
And yes what Sovereign said, almost everyone I've ever fought or seen fought has done that.

Oh and this is what I call it when you do it out of cruise "Drifting", as in your drifting out into space with no control.

I like it because it is realistic. In real life if you fired a jet in space you would keep going in that same direction until you were stopped by an opposing force. And it is really funny to start spinning out of control or do tricks with it.

However, in a combat situation, you aren't allowed to engine kill at cruise-speed and begin shooting. That is against the rules. Thrust speed is 100% encouraged, though.
