There came up in another thread quite interesting viewpoints about pirating and prices and customs. I'd like all the pirating factions to answer these questions if they can. Or if you have a rule in place or modus operandi. Also there's discussion going on if pirating = taxing. For the sake of clarify I define that pirating is done on ships carrying cargo and taxing is done on empty ships.

1) Who do you pirate? Trader IDed or all?
2) What ship categories do you pirate? Do you pirate fighters carrying cargo?
3) Do you tax empty running traders?
3a) If you tax them for a right of passage do you protect them? Or give them a time limit?
4) If you use fee tables then state them here.

So if you have any guidelines set for pirating in your faction then please state them. And if you are just a rag-tag collection of pirates I think it would benefit your faction to define basci set of rules just for you.

Flying under radar.

This is a good idea, but I'm not going to post for the factions that I'm in. That's for a higher-ranking person to do... If they want to.

Edit: mind if I add my own indies? Some of them have specific pirating guidelines..

Name: Clover Tate
Affiliation: Gaian
Shiptype: Praetorian, granted by the official factions on Crete ( requested officially )
Zone of Operation: Mainly Leeds, sometimes Edinbourgh

1.)
Who do i pirate? - since i m usually sitting at the very specific tradelane, i pirate those that deal with BMM, no matter if they re faction traders or generic traders. I have yet to see a single BMM tagged/IDed player though.

2.)
I pirate every transport type except liners. Freighters are targetted, too - but i charge based on the shiptype i see. not on the "rank".

3.)
yes, its collection of donations and not asking for cargo for me.

3a.)
they are milked a little ( freighters in the 5000-10000 credits // transports usually for 500.000 credits + what they damage on my ship ) - they receive no protection from me, but i leave them alone untill i simply forget that i pirated them.

Traders usually get a telling off when they leave - and are asked to use another traderoute than one that involves BMM.

Everything is pirated that can be pirated ( that means everything 30+ ) - my char avoids any fight and will try not to shoot a trader down. - i do have a nasty habit to take down a transports shield and nuke bomb their equipment off if they don t comply though - ( thats the terrorist part ) - when i encounter a liner, i attack, but will not ask for money, cause i ll not take it down. - i ll simply damage it as much as possible and leave it flying away. repair costs will do the rest.

thats the codex of Clover:)

@ robert. No, I don't mind. Just go ahead. I hope mostly for this thread will help pirates, be that faction or indie ones, to take a clarifying re-check on their principles on the subject. Also it would be nice for those aspiring talents out there to ponder these before getting on with demands in server. Of course it would be best for pirate factions to have internal rules governing the issue at least in basic level. It would decrease the incidents where someone is representing the faction wrong.

Flying under radar.

Carlos.Traversi - Outcast Bomber
1) Who do you pirate? Trader IDed or all? I pirate mostly trader IDed ships, as they are the majority of trading ships. I won't tax smuggler or Junker ided ships unless they break the following condition:
they come to Alpha through the Alaska route.
Not only is it OORP, the traders through there usually don't roleplay at all. I have come up with a suitable roleplay for the siniestre cloud: large trading vessels not only disturb the gravesites of the Outcast's fallen, they also disturb the Spirits (Nomads!). By travelling through the Spirits' portal (Omicron 90 jump hole), they anger the spirits and encourage their wrath.

2) What ship categories do you pirate? Do you pirate fighters carrying cargo? I would pirate all categories, but it depends on the situation.
If the fighter carries valuable (according to my character) good, I might get them to hand them over. If the goods are dangerous according to Carlos, I'll get them to drop them.

3) Do you tax empty running traders? I don't try to, but I might occasionally. Depends on the ship in question. If its a rich train which just sold its good and is transitting to a nearby base for goods, I'd tax it. "I saw you sold those expensive goods to <station>. Hand over your profits!"

3a) If you tax them for a right of passage do you protect them? Or give them a time limit? I let them go, no protection or time limits. If they are going to continue running the same route after losing, then I'll get them everytime. My Outcast needs money for his family.

4) If you use fee tables then state them here.
Freighter - 100k
Small transport (under 2000 space) - 1 million
Large transports (2000+) - 2 million.

Values are rough, if traders are willing to RP then I lessen the amount.

Collin.Baxter - Junker Pirate Train
1) Who do you pirate? Trader IDed or all? Trader and Smuggler IDs.

2) What ship categories do you pirate? Do you pirate fighters carrying cargo? Transports belonging to smugglers and other common traders. I make money from their lax attitudes to security (who would think a fellow smuggler is out to get you). Fighters, well I ignore them.

3) Do you tax empty running traders? If there's no cargo I don't bother with them.

3a) If you tax them for a right of passage do you protect them? Or give them a time limit? I don't protect them at all. I don't give them a time limit either, if there's no cargo I don't bother with them.

4) If you use fee tables then state them here.

Freighter- Scare them off and demand 10 cargo
Smaller Transports - 20% of cargo
Larger Transports (ESPECIALLY Adv. Trains) - 30-75% cargo

Name: Matt Black
Faction: Red Hessian [RHA]
Ship: Odin
Operated: Omega 11. In cooperation with other Hessians also: Omega 7, Omega 5, Dresden, New Berlin. Rarely: Omega 41, other Rheinland House systems.

Policy ma be common to other Hessians.

1) Who do you pirate? Trader IDed or all?

Outsiders and foreign corproations will taxed for credits. I consider Trader ID being corporate traders, therefore they will be taxed and credits will fund our efforts. Rheinland corporations are taxed with extreme prejudice and are my primary targets. Not only it funds Hessians, but also keeps pressure on our enemy of Rheinland house. Junkers, Zoners and IMG are immune to tax.

2) What ship categories do you pirate? Do you pirate fighters carrying cargo?

Transports and Freighters will be taxed, they are common targets. A convoy with higher defencive capabilities will also be taxed, but under heavier forces on our side, therefore it does make them taxed less. Fighters, capial ships, bombers, gunboats and gunships are usually not taxed.

3) Do you tax empty running traders?

An empty convoy will not be taxed. If an empty convoy enters Hessians teritorry it will be taxed and escorted out of the area. Fighters are not taxed but asked to leave if in Hessian space. If the target does not comply it will be shot.

3a) If you tax them for a right of passage do you protect them? Or give them a time limit?

A free passage for 4 hours is granted when tax is paid. This does not grant you free passage through Hessians territory, unless Hessian agrees under special circmstances. The taxed player will not be protected, unless he made a voluntary donation.

4) If you use fee tables then state them here.

If the target is 40 lvl or below it will not be taxed as its too small for Hessians.

Freighters - 500k - 750k
Transport - 1 mil
Train - 1,5 mil
Adv. Train - 2 mil

!) How do you pirate?

A lane is disrupted and coming trader will be asked to pay. If there are no traffic by lanes in the system an ambush will be set next to bouys (example: Omega 11). Sometimes traders wander into Hessian territory themselves. When they come to you, you tax them with bigger prejudice or advice to leave. If the target does not leave and/or pay fire is opened on him.

In short: Dont get in range of Hessian bases or else...

[Kiretsu] - Golden Chrysanthemums
Kiretsu aren't official or anything, just a group of GC pilots who like to pirate and shoot the AFA.. Lots.

1) Who do you pirate? Trader IDed or all?

All, but we charge more for any Kusari Corporation-IDd ships, Artifact smugglers, and for KoF tagged ships.. Charge less fo Smuggler IDd ships that are carrying contraband. Do not charge smugglers on the BLS' protected list. Don't charge Reapers Trading Inc vessels either.

2) What ship categories do you pirate? Do you pirate fighters carrying cargo?

Anything with more than 1,000 cargo. Ships with less than 1,000 cargo are not taxed. We do not tax fighters.

3) Do you tax empty running traders?

Depends on the tag and ID. Kusari Corporation-IDd ships we do, as well as known Artifact smugglers, and the KoF traders.

3a) If you tax them for a right of passage do you protect them? Or give them a time limit?

Time limit only, unless they are BLS-approved cardamine smugglers, where we will protect them if requested.

4) If you use fee tables then state them here.

1,000-2,000 cargo: 1 million
2,001-3,000 cargo: 2 million
3,001-5,000 cargo: 3 million

Kusari Corporation ID/Tag traders: 4 million
KoF and Artifact smugglers: 5 million

Non BLS-approved Cardamine Smugglers: 3 million (with 1/2 going to BLS)

Smuggler ID with contraband (excluding Artifacts or Cardamine): 1 - 1.5 million

For the NovaPG Blood Dragons.

1- Everything that moves, but -mainly- traders with a level higher than 50.
2- Traders, large transports, things with cargo holds.
3- Yes. A trader is a trader.
a- We protect them from pirates who are hostile to us, but if your being pirated by some one else, say, the GC or Kiretsu, we won't bother. 4 hour protection from us pirating you, is in place as well.
4- A solid two for everything, except if we "dont like you", say, you tried to pull a joke on us of some sort. (DaViD, aka Funboy, we taxed for 5 million once. Tried to give us 200k instead of 2million. )

My pirate: Quest, will nail anybody he can. and he isn't taxing or pirating. You are paying him for the right to live, which he WILL take away from you. (Stupid uber-successful escape pods).

You pay him what you feel your life is worth. bwahaha! I'll usually settle for a couple mil. If I know you are a Corsair smuggler I demand like 5-10mil depending on my mood, if you have the name Mobius you have 10 seconds to initiate a trade with 10+mil credits for me before I destroy you.

I'll post for my own indie, as I try to use him as a model for how I believe a pirate should operate.

1) Traders mostly. I've pirated the occasional "other" ship when there are several people on though.

2) I pirate nothing below level 45, doesn't matter what it is. I try to RP with people in lower class vessels than the Transport, but I don't usually pirate them for anything.

3) I do not tax empty traders.
3a) I do indeed if they ask for it, however I'll usually leave them alone after they've paid me once.

4) I go by percentages of their profits, roughly. This allows me to make it fair for everyone. I usually go 20% of what they will be making on this leg of the run give or take a bit.

I know I'm not bankrupting them but I'm still making a nice bit of profit myself.
