We got the Nuke mine which everyone uses really because it is so versatile, dealing heavy shield damage and massive hull damage with the ability to consistently hit things.

Then we have the Screamer mine which is good against bigger ships because a handful can rip shields away, same speed and tracking as the Nuke.

But the Ripper mine is not one I have seen used very often. It deals something like 58% of the Nuke mine's damage, but it has a slightly faster tracking speed. But no one uses this thing. Does it just not stand out enough, are the nuke mines easy enough to work with as is that no one wants to bother with a tracking mine?

Has anyone used a ripper in combat a lot and been able to note any worthy performance differences?

And if not... what happens if we make the Ripper even faster... say like 100 or even 120 M/S, I wonder what kinds of applications it would have then and if people would use it.

Yes, and yes.

The additional 20m/s of the Ripper Mine really don't make up for the immense lack of damage dealt compared to the Nuke.

So yeah, make it faster.

Hm would be nice if there'd be a bigger choice of mine droppers.

But balancing the Ripper mine would do it too.

Most people use nukes with CDs, so the speed does not matter.

I use them, had them on my HF to reduce self-inflicted damage and never switched away from them. Also they are cheaper and I lose a lot in my fighter so I dont like wasting money.

Tracking also is very susceptible to lag. So damage is probably safer to invest in.

Mine droppers on captital ships, ftw.

Why not?

Repurpose all of the old ones like was done with the ripper.

I use Rippers on maybe a quarter of my ships. Usually, if I've got a Minirazor instead of a CD, I'll go with Rippers over Nukes, since mine+CD is no longer an option for me. I can only hope that the additional 20m/s on the Rippers makes a difference in getting the mines to connect with their target, but to be honest, I haven't noticed anything special out of them.

Also, what Benjamin and Ursus said. You won't accidentally blow yourself up instantly with a Ripper, and they're a bit cheaper when you're restocking your ammo.
