Uhm. I was thinking that when one gun have fast refire and fast speed it should have less DPS. Rule of thumb you would say...
As it seems the people that made the guns in before 4.86 had the same logic.
What is changed now? Why some 8.33 guns have more or same DPS then 4.0 guns with less speed? Why the low speed and low refire faction guns have so low DPS compared with 8.33s? 8.33s were more then fine in 4.85 if the user knew what he is doing- now the other guns are kinda... second class 9s because they are ballanced with less DPS.
There are some funny gun things- check Reavers and Buckshots for example or Magmas and LN 8.33s.
Or Natters and Purple Goddess or Vampires and Heavy Flaspoints. Or for instance of the "nerfed" Krackens- compare them with Order Reapers... Or Sammaels and Trefoils
Something is really wrong in the whole story, one update came, second 5th still no changes. Opinions?

Well, isn't it obvious?

Think of yourself in a fight against a good VHF player, he is using magmas, sniping you and you are using 8.00s. Obviously he will win, because he can deal more damage in less time, while you, to make the same damage, must hit him constantly.


I approve of this change, especially when many are stuck with 8.00s like the PGs or Flashpoints or Sammies. It now means that you can deal as much damage to your opponent in smaller bursts. However, I can see how this makes them imba against larger targets that cannot doge your fire so well.
The rule of thumb you mentioned was complained on quite a while now, only because of that one flaw. Factions that were stuck with 8.00s, albeit not many of them, could not use them efficiently in battle. Only because it required to hit the target for one whole second. Just imagine how long is one second. The guy would have to be sliding pretty damn straight.



I welcome the change, I see more people use the Vengies over Magmas, for example.

And what about group fights, and skill of aim? Or the factions that by lore does not have 8.33s and does not want or can in RP use 8.33s? And what if people in the long term trow away their faction guns and go for PGs and Flashpoints`?

Hitting a target with 8.00s in a group fight is even more hard, only because that your target is not facing you. And about skill...well, back when they were still doing the same DPS as the other guns, two skilled fighters with a 2.00 and 8.00 loadout could shoot each other and the 2.00 would always win. I think there was a test on this very thing in conn, where they would swap guns in the process. The 8.00 would lose.


But I digress, luck is also a large part of pvp, so if you are lucky enough to encounter someone who does not know how to strafe, then obviously the things will cut him open in a matter of moments.

In my opinion, the 8.33er are well balanced, since they got buffed.

Look at Sammaels: Incredible high DPS, Great speed and refire. energy cost of cource, but with Werewolf...
My opinion is: make more Civil guns. why only Lasers and Pulces? make Plasma or Molecular samples. or maybe Tachyon... Civilian tech supposed to be less powerful then Military/Pirate right? PvP ballance ruins all that...

To reach the statedd DPS you are reading in the wiki the 8.33's need to land all 8.33 shots every second to do it while the 2.00's need to only land two hits every second to reach that number you are reading. now over a period of time measured in seconds the poor fellow using the 8.33's needs to work constantly in order to maintain the DPS that is stated as opposed to the 2.00's which do burst DPS meaning the windows of time needed to dodge doesn't cost you your optimal dps as much as it does to the 8.33s.

I don't know of anyone who can come close to maintaining the DPS stated for 8.33s
