if you have a bro who lives in the same house, and likes to play Freelancer too, get them to try this with you:
Split up your keyboard controls. One bro uses mouse + keypad for turret and firing controls. Other bro uses rest of keyboard for steering, strafing and navigation/targeting.
Its actually hardar than it sounds. I never tried it on Freelancer but, in my younger days, I used to do this with my bro on CS 1.6 and back then we fought each other to play on the only computer we had. So we came up with a plan. While one of us had the keyboard, and other got the mouse, its was extremely hard to aim/move. Because our actions did not synchronize. I was trying to aim at the target. but then there's a sudden crouch which makes me confused and miss the enemy. Or he was moving first to left in dust2 in long and the when he saw the terrorists come out from the door he started to move slightly to the right and crouch and then it made me miss the enemy completely.
Our brains doesn't work at the same speed/wise and its definetaly not synchronized.
But, yeah, good luck!
Here you can enter a short message which will be automatically appended to the bottom of your posts.
Remember also that FL engine only takes into account a certain amount of control input at one time. One player will max this limit out steering already.
An example is to try to steer up and left, AND roll, all whole shooting, the game will cancel out one of the commands to fulfill the others. So you CAN turn up and to the side and roll at the same time, but the game wont let you fire till you let go of one of the movement commands.
Same thing works with strafe, if you're in-puting more than 3-4 commands between shooting and movement they will start to cancel each other out.
I've tried steering and strafing at the same time, it can be done, but it wont let you fire.
Me and my brother we both play freelancer and instead of trying that kind of weird things we trade together, a small trader and a 5000 Transport, the small goes in the front with low cargo to scout for pirates.
We have been doing for some times and my 5000 Trans did not get pirated even once when we trade together.
Not to mention having a brother makes a lot easier switching armor and other equipments between ships.
And just to finish, traders are a lot more like to attend demands when two bombers are aiming their snacks at him :yahoo:

Once when my friend was mining on my miner character a pirate popped up and we had just filled the hedgemon with 2750 ore. So as the pirate was coming out to the field to pirate us, my friend just hit the cruise and headed back to Elbich (O-7). We BARELY made it back alive, he flew and docked. I slammed the nanobots because he couldn't look at the armor/shield bars going down and up all the time AND fly the hedgemon through an asteroid field on full burners. (Dont ask)
We ran through a full load of nanos/shields (ALL of them) and landed with just 2 bars of armor left.
Just had to share the story since thats what we're talking about. It was Epic. Had us going 'Holy crap!' for awhile after:yahoo:
I've nothing otherwise constructive to add to this:)
