I assume that this is not allowed, but I triple-checked the rules and ran a couple of searches in this forum and can't find any prohibition against it. The closest thing I can think of would be that it might be considered playing "out of roleplay" if someone asks for, say, $5 US dollars instead of $20,000,000 credits for a certain item or weapon when offering it for sale in system chat. But on the other hand, since OORP chat is not forbidden in private conversations, I don't see how it could be illegal if it's negotiated in a private channel. If a newbie to the server privately offers a veteran player real-life money for in-game credits, is that really punishable?

Has this ever come up in the past? Like I said, I did some searching, but I didn't find anything.

Hmm.

You have to consider this game is privately owned. Its nothing you pay for to play. You are basically trying to make cash RL money off a a group of dedicated players and a dedicated development team that does this with thier own time/money with donations. In essence this game is free and doesnt really generate revenue.

Also many games ban accounts for these actions and in thier EULA its quite against.

While I don't know the definitate answer I'm gunna say that it would be heavily frowned up by most if not cause you a giant wealth of problems. Seems quite shady buisness.

while that is commonly done in professional mmorpgs - its also a bad habit. - and in freelancer its even pointless, cause ingame items have little value in terms of money or whatnot. - its the roleplay value they sometimes have, and thats priceless.

I would avoid it like the plague if I was you. This is not Eve, and its sad little world of Eastern Players racking
up skill points on accounts to be sold on to lazy people who can't be arsed to do it properly.
Personally I think the idea stinks, and for all your rule searching, we didn't expect this sort of rather low
behavior to occur to be honest. But I will go out on a limb, and so NO you cannot do it.
There are other implications which I will not go into here ...

Wow, just to clarify, I wasn't talking about me, personally, being involved in anything like this... It's just that in games like Freelancer, with persistent characters, RPG elements, and an in-game economy, there are usually rules regarding "real world" transactions, and I realized that I'd never heard of such a rule on this server. just curiosity.:)

Thats rubbish, and i hate playing like that... One of the reasons i left Rogue Universe Mod.

There the more money you donated, the better ship you would got...

For example:

25$ - Admin ship

50$ - Admin shield

100$ - Admin guns

200$ - Some damn supership that had 3 time more guns then the 2nd strongest one in game

There were also more shields and guns for about 5-10$. And the only way to get them was by paying admins money.

It's not illegal, but I would stay away from it...

Money is very easily earned here at disco. If you find the right trade runs, you can easily make 10 million per run. That easily covers your ship, bribes, and guns. 2 more runs, and you can get a mk 8 armor.

What pisses me off is in Space Cowboy, there were people on the opposing faction who seemed to ALWAYS be using money items, and was nearly impossible to kill them because of what they used....

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack

The biggest thing about FL is that the chars are not always persistent.

Hmm, where have I come? Why does it seem so familiar to this one?

This is a GREAT idea. I personally am prepared to sell startracker ships for $1000 each. Meet me in NY orbit. Gimme your credit card details now. I also know a guy who will sell you justic mk1 guns for a mere $250 each.

Honestly. Where do people get these ideas?
