OK, you all know my take on Police-owned capital ships. I am against it, deathly against it, it is my one real conviction. Or was against it. What could make me get the LPI a Dreadnought? Sterling RP, so water-tight that even I couldn't deny it. Patrick was talking, and asked me that if the LPI could get a battleship that was like Spaceball One, and I laughed at the idea, and I want it to happen. I'm working on the specifics of the RP now, but rest assured it's not gonna be the generic "Oh, the military didn't want it anymore so they gave it to us".

[Pause for comments]

Now, for the SWAT team. The Havoc II, quite frankly, sucks. It's not built for dual-Razors. I suggest instead that we use Guardians that are armed with 2 Imp Debs, 2 Vengeance Vs, a Cannonball missile launcher, and a Razor. It'd come from the same place the Dreadnought came from. This is all planned out in my mind, don't worry about it.

[Pause for comments]

Now, for a new rank. The Detective. These would be the serious cops, that don't eat donuts. By serious, I mean they'd actually do work. The tag would be LPI-[Det.]FirstName.LastName. Because in TV shows detectives don't have to drive Crown Vics, these would also be allowed to fly either Arrows, Griffins, or Eagles, but only allowed to mount Debs and Vengeances.

[Pause for comments]

This is very drafty, as I'm at my dad's house and don't have much time to type it up, so please leave your comments and suggestions. Also, if you want to talk in Skype, I don't have it here, so you can't.

all Liberty police in capital ship are infested! kill them! kill them!

In fact you are right, having 2 mini on a bomber doesn't change a lot of things since you are less agile than a VHF

Original idea for the detective thing... but what will they do?

Is this a capship for serious police work or for comedic relief?
If its for comedic relief then it should have no armor, and only mount stupulse and starbeam turrets...and dispense LOTS of donuts, for free (Luxury food, so it spoils)
If its serious, well, I have yet to see anything that zapp does that doesn't meet with my approval. Just don't camp it on top of an unlawful base and you'll get no complaints from me.

Police using Navy ships as a general rule? Hmm. Let me combine this with the next one:

Why don't you just switch the swat team into the detective role, and wrap them all up into one thing?
If you use Eagles, I don't see a need for Guardians.
I suggest doing one thing at a time. Bring in the Detectives in Eagles now, and see if that still leaves a big gap in the defenses. If so, then it can be addressed then.
I am not a fan of restructuring the rp to fit the "best ship/weapon". The ship/weapons should fit your rp, and you make do with the disadvantages. Otherwise every ship on the server would be one of a handful of models using 2 or 3 types of weapons. That's a shooting gallery, not a roleplaying server.
One things I'm sure about, NY needs some serious traffic cops with big enough guns to make the oorp evil doers listen up. And that goes for the so called lawful traders, zoners, and mercs as much as for the unlawfuls. I hope to see traffic citations that end in gunfire real soon. Nothing else will have an effect on the oorp cesspool of NY.

Not sure they should be called 'Detectives' since they do investigations and sorts.

How about Squad Commander?

Seeing this idea go forward would make life interesting in Liberty.

I was thinking of starting an RP "TV show", kind of like Law and Order, which would be 10 posts to the episode, detailing their work on one crime for the duration, and maybe throwing in some legal stuff, though I'd need someone with some experience with that sort of thing to help me if it'd feature that.

They would be serious, think like the guys on Law and Order, or any cop show/book. The LPI should be enforcing the law, though we also want to keep the donut munchers.

Were you joking about the dread? If not then im sorry, but police with a dread? Sounds a bit odd, as there aren't enough capital ships in liberty as it is, no offense though, just thinking out loud here.

Second part sounds good, as for the detective, might have to make the name smaller, as only a max of 23 characters can be used in a name. And being able to fly the eagle, that would mean you would have to go out to theta, correct?

The rest is good, still don't think a dread would be nice for the LPI, maybe a battlecruiser?

Xoria: Thanks for the vote of confidence. It'd be mostly for comedic relief, though it would also be used to combat a few capwhores. Otherwise, we wouldn't bring it into group battles, but only if there was nothing else. Eppy's already offered to pay for the armor, and I'm gonna be asking a few people for donations. I can pay for some, but I can't afford it all.

Trust me, the RP is coming along for it all. We're not trying to be 'uber pwnzor' here with the Navy ships, but nothing else really fits for the SWAT team, and I'm sick and tired of the Havoc. If the LPI bomber gets made like I want, then we can use that, but I don't see it happening.

Sniper: Again, trust me on it until I have something more concrete. I'll be able to sit down and start writing seriously tonight/tomorrow, Monday at the latest.

Detective is a delightful idea !
Their job ? Investigations on criminals, following trails of smuggler, all in all a serious job without being an assault team. A potential RP like : "Hey ! i've being assaulted by "x", we need proof to put him in jail, so an investigation is launched." or "we've heard a convoy of cardamine is coming, try to investigate about the quantities, the leader, and their route."

I really love the idea of "bad and good cop" as a counter part of the classical lazy policemen but still in the spirit of full RPer and not "anti PvPer'. So no need for a Dread or anything else, the navy will always support you guys.

EDIT : spell check + i've always thought that a criminal record must be held somewhere... maybe the detective can be the "eyes" of Liberty ? Sometime, being known as criminal refrain people to show up too often. Giving to a player character an RP identity (criminals in such case) force them to plunge into the RP context and to undestand the consequence of his actions in a coherent world (even if the PC is mostly ooRP).
