Not much is known about the past of Felix Fontaine. He himself claims to be from an aristocratic family, bearing true noble blood, however many of the people he meet often deem this as mere fiction.
A young man, he prides himself as a true "gentleman", strictly following the unspoken laws of what defines proper Gallic nobility. His occupation however, is far from noble. He works with the criminal underground in Gallia, making a living through piracy and in the information business. He has contacts throughout the black market in Gallia and can get anybody with enough francs any illegal good in Gallia.
His piracy methods are also far from "gentlemanly". He prefers to pick on poorly defended convoys. Choosing to high-tail it when reinforcements arrive. He only picks fights he knows he can win. Choosing his life over any sort of honour any time. He pilots the only ship he has, tEclipse Gallic Civilian Bomber.
His diary begins`when he gives up piracy in Gallia, stating that convoys now are "too well protected" due to the war with the Sirians. One of his friends gives him a tip-off that Sirian convoys away from the battlefront are easy pickings, often poorly defended and armed with weak weaponry. His friend offers him a place to stay on Barrier Gate Station, where he operates from, often targeting Bretonian and Libertonian convoys heading through the independent worlds.
He himself is actually a Council sympathizer and supporter. He often charges less credits or even, or rarer occasion, lets off Bretonian convoys who are supplying the fight against the Gallic invasion. He however, still believ%s "business is business" and that he cannot simply let off every Bretonian convoy he s%es.
Gallic convoys nowadays seem to be more & more heavily armed and defended. I have no idea how am I supposed to make a living here. I suppose I could always go back to being a pick pocket.
Today, however, winds have changed. My good friend, Joseph LeClerc has given me a little tip off. Sirian convoys away from the battlefront are poorly defended, or so the rumours say. Sounds like a good business opportunity to me. He set me up with some real estate down by a station called "Barrier Gate Station". He even sent me a star map of the area. How nice of him. He says that the nexus of trade is Sirius is centred around a place called "Liberty" and "Barrier Gate" is just a few holes away, the prime location for a base of operations.
Seems I'll be off next week. To new prey, to new frontiers, to Sirius.
Left for Sirius today, packed my bags and went away from my usual base of operations on Monte Cristo. Had to jump through a whole lot of hoops to actually reach here.
Fortunately, my contacts hooked me up with some fake papers and an alibi. I was to escort a convoy of deuterium to the Gallic front lines, or so the authorities believe.
As soon as the convoy touched down in the Taus, we changed course to Kusari, heading to Tau-29. From there, I left the convoy for Baffin while the convoy headed to the Council system of Roussillon.
So here I am, a hole away from Baffin on this icy rock they call "Barrier Gate". My pal gave me some real estate at a discount price, a comfy room on deck 27a, could use some re-decorating though.
May take some getting to, I have no idea who to pirate here and have no idea who's top dog amongst the underground. I guess I'll hang around the bars, listen in on some rumours. I'll start my business when I get the necessary info.
Spent a lot of time hanging around the bars, eavesdropping on some conversations here and there, getting engaged in some.
The time I spent however, was well spent. I have discovered many details about Liberty that will help me "fit in" so to say. Also, I've found out that the top dog in the Libertonian underground, as of now, is a guy named "Moka". Interesting name.
I have proceeded to contact him in hopes of getting permission to pirate in Liberty. I've prepared some cash and a few gifts for some added persuasion. If this does't go through, then I'll have to pirate somewhere else, a whole lot of trouble seeing as I came all the way from Gallia.
Looks like my powers of persuasion have not dulled one bit since I have left Gallia.
I am the harbinger of wonderful news. Moka seemed impressed with me and I have successfully gotten a piracy permit in Liberty.
Apparently, the Rogues already have a system of "pay to pirate" in place. Wasn't aware of that. Always thought it'll be the old Gallic system of asking for permission directly. I guess the Libertonians are more efficient than the people back in Gallia.
I'll be pirating as soon as my application is officially accepted.
Excellent news, I have been officially permitted to pirate in Liberty!
I guess I'll begin my business soon. The only problem remaining are these two little artifacts I have in my possession. I promised that Moka guy that I'll hand him these two trinkets as an opening gift. He hasn't contacted me about it since officially accepting my application.
To not live up to my word is to tarnish the name of the Fontaine family. I will attempt to contact him and deliver these goods. As a man of my word and a member of the Fontaine family, I must uphold my promise.
I handed him the Gallic artifacts and he seemed quite please. Welcomed me quite warmly into Liberty and invited me to Alcatraz for a drink. However, I do find his taste in drinks a bit...queer. "Paint-stripper" isn't really my cup of tea, or anybody else's cup of tea for that matter.
On an unrelated note, had a little encounter with some "Gateway" person. I politely asked him to give me a bit of info on Sirius. He "politely" told me to get lost and basically condemned me for being Gallic. As you know, I take respect very seriously. Thus, I "politely" cracked his hull open.
Guess the people here in Sirius aren't too friendly towards foreigners.
Sat about Alcatraz today. Not (yes, emphasis on the not) drinking whatever Moka recomended. The man is nice, but his tastes in drinks are, in the least bit, queer. I still haven't gotten over that incident with that "Paint Stripper" drink of his.
Heard some rumours circulating about a little "device" that was, astonishingly, of high technological standard, and yet, produced by Sirians. To think the Sirians have access to technology that goes beyond what we have in Gallia. Worse, beyond comprehension! A cloaking device! My word, the last time we Gallics experimented with cloaking devices, it was an utter failure. Five hundred and seventy two antimatter reactors, working in tandem to provide a cloak to a something the size of three valors for less than ten seconds. Even if it did work, it was useless!
Seems I have to investigate these Sirian "cloaking devices", interesting little things.
Finally got my hands on this "cloaking device". Funny looking things, some parts seem almost biological in nature. The dealer told me that "Nomad" matter was a component. Said "Nomads" were "aliens". Must be off his hatter. Bah aliens? I must see this for myself to believe it.
Strange little thing fits in place of my counter measures. I guess that I can't escape by the usual method of engaging cruise then.
Well, for one it works. Consumes quite a bit of fuel though, had to bring a bit of extra fuel in my hold. Good thing is, it works. I believe that with this little device on my ship, I'll never be caught! If I'm ever in a jam, this device will definitely come in handy.
