My grandparents have a PS3, I can honestly say the graphics are PHENOMENAL. Uber. Really cool.
360 has some nice games like Rock Band.

Got neither. But I would have these for the following reasons:
PS3 for the KH series, massive potential for great games, Final Fantasy series, Gran Turismo, Free online play, Motorstorm
360 for: Fable 2, Xbox Live, Halo 3, Forza Motorsport 2
Those are why I want them. But I would opt for 360, less money needed.

I just bought my PS3 last week. My friend bought his XBox 360 around the same time. I have to say I MUCH prefer my PS3. Of course I have always been a Playstation owner so I may be a bit biased. I will also add that my friend is going to sell his XBox soon and upgrade to the PS3.
I bought GTA4 yesterday and it is an awesome good time. From everything I've read, the PS3 version of that game alone is strides above the Xbox version.
The Xbox has a wider selection of games... now. It has also been in existence for a year longer so that will almost assuredly change very soon. My personal opinion is that PS3 will dominate the market much like its predecessors (Playstation, PS2 and PSP) did.

ON MY WAY OUT OF RETIREMENT
Has a considerably larger game library. The system is targeted towards a 15-25 year 'Frat Boy' demographic. The majority of the 360's titiles are created with this group in mind as such just about every game is built to be action heavy and online compatable.
Right now the 360 is second most common console in north america second only to the Wii, which is only ahead because that console is designed and geared to non-gamers, excluding Nintendo buffs of course. The 360 has improved allot in the last two years with HDMI ports now standard and it has reduced its 32% failure rate to 16% (which to me is still bad!) Will not be able to keep up to the PS3 graphically in a couple of years.
Playstation 3:
The only full-spec blue ray player on the market. $1000 dollar blue ray players released at the same time as the PS3 are now obsoulete due to massive updates to Blue-Ray firm ware that PS3`s have been able to keep up with due to updates. Online play with PS3 is free but not nearly as well organized as XBOX Live and the machine will update regularily.
Thanks to the blue ray disk and PS3`s super powerful CELL prossesor the PS3 will kick the 360`s butt in graphics department and game proccesing very soon, but this extra power means that developers will need to spend twice as long in game development. Although the hardawre is all new Sony has thankfully been keeping qauilty control in check and the PS3 has never had a failure rate above 5%.
Unfortunatly Sony and the developers have lost sight of the importance of `plug & play` gaming. Many titles on the PS3 require a 5 gig install before you can play them which is annoying, especially to people who primarily rent games.
THE DECIDING FACTOR:
Find out what games that are out and in development that will be exclusive to either system. Look at them carefully and decide which of those you are more likely to play and enjoy. That is best way to decide the system for you.
If you go PS3 I strongly recomend giving rachet and Clank future tools of destruction a try. That game will not disapoint.
Do not look at Mass Effect as an exclusive for 360. It will soon be released on PC and Bioware ahs made soem massive changes based on fan and critic feedback. Essentialy they are treating the PC verison like a trial run for Mass Effect 2.
The only problem with that is by the time the ps3 catches up with the 360 it will be time for a new system(five year life). I own both and can tell you there are pros and cons for both systems. If I had to keep only one it would be the 360 which is far more enjoyable right now. If you compare the same game on both system the 360 is clearly the best. If the ps3 is suppose have all this horse power why haven't we seen it yet. The graphics are only slightly better on a few games but the overall experience is still better on the 360.
If you like listening to your own music while playing games get the 360 because this feature is not available on the ps3. And as far as the free online play well you get what you pay for, ask GTA 4 players how that's working out for them on the ps3 network. Comparing the ps3 network to xbox live is not even close. Xbox Live by far and 50.00 bucks a year for xbox live is very reasonable and a steal for the service you get.
All the spec's in the world mean nothing if you don't have the best games. The playstation and the ps2 had exclusive rights to some of the best games on the market but they didn't have the best hardware yet they won the battle for their respective generations. Now the roles are reversed while the specs might lead you to think the ps3 is slightly better why are all the 360 games better. If you don't believe me (a gamer who wants the best game period no matter what system it on) check the reviews on any magazine.
