Tells me to reboot my computer and try again.

and when i try to run FL by clicking the freelancer.exe- freelancer crashes and give and error that i dont have a 3d capable card... I do. the GT430 by MSI.
Please helpz.

Just sold a ship and guy is waiting for codes....

I do not have the ISO disk for windows 8- i used the web upgraded where you DL the..... yeah you know. Anyway, I've ran as admin, and in certain compatibility modes, still nothin.

However i had automatic updating off.... I will turn that on- fully update the machine and retry...

Try running it in Win7 mode if there is a Win7 mode. Dunno, I've not really messed with that crap of an OS. Win7 is a perfectly fine OS, MS needs to leave well enough alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work on Windows 8, the game is nearly 10 years old.

I don't think the game supports IPv6 either so I don't think online Freelancer has much of a life left in it.

IPv4 will remain in use for a number of years to support backwards compatibility. There is a ton of hardware out there that doesn't support IPv6.

THAT.

Windows 7 is perfect (almost...) like Windows XP was.

Vista was awful.

Windows 8 will also be awful due to Microdaft playing catch up with big bad Apple with the tablet thing ...

I'm awaiting Windows 9 -_-

Just run it under compatibility mode ( also, uninstall framework and install the framework with compatibility mode too - and then install FL + DISCO ( Again with compatiblity ).
It runs perfect for me anyhow.

Were fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

Freelancer works perfectly fine on Windows 8--I'm running it right now, in fact, and my experience is no different than on Windows 7/Vista/XP. I installed .NET 3.5 for one of the other tools I use before installing Freelancer, so maybe that helps?

Assuming you mean error code 0x800f0922 (0x800f0992 doesn't exist as far as I can tell), a search on Microsoft's site comes up with a few results, notably this support question and this installation guide. (.NET 3.5 includes both 2.0 and 3.0, so you should be covered.) Going by the first link, you might have a borked OS install as a result of the in-place upgrade (which, while overall tend to be pretty good, have some unfortunate results every now and then), in which case a system reset might be in order. Start with the smaller stuff before resorting to that though, of course.

---

Now, for those of you bashing on the new OS: I get that it's cool to do so, but have any of you actually tried it? And I don't mean look at it for two seconds and go "UGLY INTERFACE NEVERMIND I'M OUT LOL." I mean actually run it for a week and see what it's really like rather than going on uninformed first impressions.

I'm not a huge fan of the Metro interface (or whatever it is they're calling it now) on a desktop, and I'm the first one to admit that--but it's nowhere near as intrusive as a lot of people seem to think it is, nor is it a world-shattering change that will prevent you from using your computer in the same way ever again. One hour, and you're familiar with the changes to the desktop–which, by the way, still exists, despite what you may have said or heard–and you're back up to speed. At no point are you ever forced to use the new interface to get work done. And for those who absolutely can't stand the tablet-y interface, there's Start8 (paid) and Classic Shell (free).

There's a whole slew of improvements both visible and otherwise to the OS that you'll pick up on right away–a redesigned copy mechanism and a better task manager, for example, along with a plethora of speed boosts here and there that contribute to making the OS feel noticeably snappier than its predecessors.

And, I'm sorry, but anyone who claims XP (which turned a full decade old this year) is still the best version of Windows is off their rocker and should disconnect themselves from the Internet to spare the rest of us from their malware-enabling selves.

tl;dr: If you're judging something based on flash-in-the-pan first impressions, you're perpetuating wilful ignorance and stop it.

edit: Oops, yeah, didn't see the date on the post there. Silly gravediggers.
