JUST IDEA!


[color=#3366FF]I trade trough many of astreoid fields and in astreoids fields you can only destroy small astreoids that are flying around . cant there be done that at least miner ships can "mine" large astreoids and that will astreoids spawn again after they are destroyed .Those astreoids may drop more resorces.So what do you think?

second. Its a nice idea, but messing with 'roid fields seems to be something that is a lot of work for not much gain. I like it but It probably ain't gunna/can't happen

FOR : -Good ! What are miners supposed to do with small asteroids ? It's just too much work for low benefits !
-It is said we can destroy them, don't need to make them weak, this must be a REAL hard work for REAL benefits, suiting to REAL miners...
-For the ones who will say "if fields are destructible, they will be no obstacle anymore, let's delete them instead and put ressources at their location !" Remember, there are maintenance that resupply anything...

AGAINST : -ARE YOU NUTS ?! Do you think about how much work this will represents for Admins ?! I personally wouldn't take care of something like THAT !
-Don't you have a better idea to make this server crush any time someone open fire ?
-During fights, you miss shots. When you fight in asteroid fields, shots goes to asteroids. When the fight is finished and you realise you have 1546 goods (30 cargo each of them) around you, what do you do ? If you can answer this, I will acclaim your wonderful idea...

OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?

I SAy that only miner ships can destroy large astreoids. Why all work have to be put on admins ? what about other programing players in freelancer.

You want bigger asteroids that only miner ships can mine and that drop more resources.

Firstly, the bigger asteroids would probably be possible with a model change, not sure 100% if it is possible but I'm even more unsure that people would actually want it. If they are big asteroids, then flying through them could be a hassle, or they could damage your ship.

Only miner ships being able to mine them is impossible without a weapon, solely for mining ships. It makes far more sense to just make a wide range weapon with very low damage to mine many small asteroids at once than do all this work for the same effect.

Dropping more resources is easy. The drop rate of resources can be increased, as can the amount that is dropped. Shoot some junk in Sigma 13, many many pieces of junk metal come out. Yet go to colerado and shoot some gold asteroids, not at all as many come out.

In the end it seems to be an aesthetic option as everything else can already be achieved with less work. Do you just want larger asteroids?

This has been one of those holy grail quests for FL modders for awhile and I think the first problem is this:

Asteroids can't be to high a poly count if they are numerous--that's why you only see one or two random "big ones" in a field--and note--they don't move.

The second problem is this:

Big asteroids would either have to break down into smaller ones and in turn those smaller ones would then have to break down as well--or you have a big asteroid vaporize into a billion pieces which is a lag deal.

I think game mechanics are not friendly to either of these things.

I like the idea. But as stated, I dont think it can be done. What I'd suggest however, is more shootable asteroid flying around, with more loot to make the whole thing much more profitable.

Yeah, that and a super fast mining turret that barely does any damage, has a cool howitzer effect, and can take out that many asteroids in little time.

All these ideas are great, it's just the implementation that's the nearly impossible bit as far as I understand.

Nothing like the ongoing "We are Microsoft and you no-be-getty-the-source-codies" stuff, eh?
