I had to get MySQL to run this private WoW server, but it's refusing to run properly. I can't seem to get the instant setup wizard to setup the server in the background on the services tab and it can't connect locally to the laptop itself, can anyone help me out? Thanks

~Leo

Roleplay is dead. Long live Powertraders and PvP I guess.

What exactly does it say? First, you have to install it under administrator account, also you have to make sure that firewall doesn't block it's port (by default: 3306).

To install or remove as windows service you can do this in MySQL server bin directory.
Code:
mysqld --install
Code:
mysqld --remove

The first error was Error:2003, cannot connect locally to MySQL, then it changed to Error:1045, access denied. And now under the instance install, it clears the PRepare Configuration and Write Configuration File, but won't clear the third check, which is Start Service. (Error:0)

Do I have to do it under the actual Adminstrator user or can I do it under my normal user account that has administrator access?

No, you can do it under your normal account which has administrator privileges. Check firewall, most likely it's blocking configuration utility from connecting to server. Don't try to install MySQL over again if you already have service installed. Check Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services. See if MySQL service is there and if it's running.

MySQL was under the services tab, but when I attempted to start the service, it terminated with the error "Error: 1067, The Process Terminated Unexpectedly"

That's most likely to be incorrect install or a problem with configuration. I suggest you to reinstall it using default settings. Also don't forget to remove MySQL service from windows services (see first reply). Can't say much else without looking into it (remote access).

One of my classmates (he is able to get a WoW server running):
Installation of MySQL under Windows is rather chaotic...

And that MySQL under windows is rather slow and not very stable... So his advise is: Linux (yeah, yeah...)

So not much help from me.

I would argue with that, Epholl. I use MySQL for many purposes, and it's essential part of my work, both for my long-term hobby and my job. I run it both at Windows and Linux servers.

Also I had WoW server running too without a slightest problem in setting it up.

And the only access I have is on a Government computer, not my own which has no internet access.

What I'm looking at now is the err file and the following is what it says...

"InnoDB: Error: log file.\ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 178257920 bytes
InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 25165824 bytes!
080518 14:27:22 [ERROR] Default storage engine (InnoDB) is not available
080518 14:27:22 [ERROR] Aborting

080518 14:27:22 [Note] C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqld-nt: Shutdown complete"

Reinstalled the service and software, and I still get "Could not start the service MySQL"
