Ok so there i was just found myself jumping from Alaska>NY with a load of cardamine!! Start my cruise engines and head for the minefield field. Success i made it and have 1 contact @ 14K!!, I jump on the lowed speaker and tell the crew to get to there posts we are making a run for it. By the time all is said and done i dive under the system star they give chase at this point i look at my radar to see that I'm now 2k ahead, mind you Mr.Policeman's wing man joined the chase. Incoming missile!! my HUD starts flashing red like brothel after midnight, as i think to myself thats it I'm done for then out the starboard side window i see direct hit!! Much to my surprise i am still in cruise/warp I sit back in my chair and let out a long sigh of re leaf turn and look to my XO and said wow we got lucky they were only packing a Fighter cruise disrupter its no where nearly power full enough to take out his boat, we are in the clear now mate. Then BOOM incoming fire shields down to half... I think to myself well hes out of the chase just one left, then BOOM incoming fire shields gone! But its the same ship how can that be I said to myself! them BOOM and a big flash of light and I wake up in my escape pod on Planet Malta. Chalk one for the good guys!
EDIT to for clearification
OORP question on the rules would cutting engines firing and reforming on a group member over and over to catch up, get around the MAX cruise speed cap be against or within the rules I'm not looking for a sanction just some clarification on the subject.
quite easy answer - you must not fight when you re cruising. - the only time you may do so is when you are activly chased.
now.... if you have jumped from alaska to new york ( not commenting that little thingy here ) - and you are chased by the police for example. - you can of course engage cruise, even E-kill at catching up speed.... BUT
if the police decides to let you go. you MUST leave the system ( no, not leave it by docking at manhatten and sell your goods - but leave it WITH your cargo or drop your cargo in space ) - mind, you must not dock while you re chased by police anyway ( at a lawful base - so you might have only headed to rochester )
if you were chased and the police lets you go however, you must not even dock at rochester, cause you are considered to be "retreating" - which means... you have to leave the system asap. ( asap does not include sell your cargo first ) - if you docked first, sold your goods and then left the system, - it would allmost count as a violation, cause the rules clearly say that the one retreating has to leave the system.
now... if you were NOT cruising you d have the right to dock at an unlawful base of course. ( or a lawful if your tag / ID suggests it and if you were not spotted )
mind, if it was a lawful that came up to you - you are not allowed to shoot at him, if you have a trader ID. ( traders have the right to attack pirates and unlawfuls... they do NOT have the right to open fire at lawfuls whatsoever - only in pure self defense )
Did i mention that i am a smuggler/trader and as i understand it
ll rules that apply to ID types apply to generic IDs as well. Trader and Smuggler IDs are considered Trader IDs. All generic ID owners are not allowed to use cruisers and battleships.
so as I understand it PVP fleeing rules do not apply to traders/smugglers.
hm, cannot make a clear statement there. - in a way, you are right. - for a trader/smuggler, the retreat or re-engagement rules are void.... however, if you had a fight ( especially when you were the one that opened fire ) - i m not sure if this exception still counts.
for example:
a trader ID can support a fighter. - so lets say, a trader in an eagle is in the same situation.... no matter of his ID as a trader, the re-engagement rules apply, cause he is considered to fly a combat vessel. but that is up for discussions, i guess - i never really thought much about it.
But i think having a trade/smuggler ID limits you to a select number of ships IE Freighters and Transports not Fighters. Still a player with the trade ID is still only allowed to attack pirates and any other ship for self defense but what you are suggesting sounds like some serious loopholing and said person should be able to understand what they are doing is just poking the server rules with a sharp stick.
If you're in a trading-vessel, like in an adv. train, and you get blown up by police you can come back as often you wish...
But this is pretty stupid, after getting caught you should change the route.
I'd say abusing the 420 max speed like that to catch up to someone you let get past is against the spirit of the rules... but up to interpretation I spose:)
I've tried to forget, I've tried SO HARD to forget...
Against the spirit of the rules gets you sanctioned as hard if not harder than blatantly against the rules. That shows true malevolence, as opposed to just ignorance.
