Multiple times now I have been shot upon by various pirates or whoever feels like shooting something, simply because my Tag is against their faction.

Wrong.

I'm a Trader, and I've checked multiple times in my Alignment chart; I have no tag.

Yet I have been accused of having anything from a GC tag, to a Dragons tag, to who knows what else. And I have verified this, I have two brothers playing this game in the same house, and when they say I have a Tag I check. Usually when I go to check out their computer screens, only one of them will show the Tag, while the other will just show my usual name with no tag.

I've also lost a few Mil because of this error, I was flying my usual trade route when some pirate came and demanded I drop my cargo or pay a 2Mil fine for having a Dragons Tag, and trading with a planet that was against the Dragons.

I played along, not really knowing what the heck was going on, but then after I had lost my 2Mil and ran all the way back to where I started to take a different route, I started talking to the Pirate in Private about the situation. He said it was probably a Glitch so I relogged, but still the same effect, so He relogged. Bingo. The Tag was gone, as it should have been.

Only now he decided that he'd have to continue the RP taking the fix into consideration, so I got Taxed 2Mil to pass through on my usual trade route.

Taking all of this into perspective, either some sort of patch needs to be released that checks and double-checks peoples Tags in-game, or Tags need to be either removed or simply ignored in RP play. Especially because as it is now, you could even have two people from the same group looking at a person, one starts attacking the person and the other's wondering why the heck they're doing it!

At least with ID's this sort of major RP breaking mix-up cannot occur.

What's your stand on this?

It may just be you. As far as I know, nobody else has had this problem.

And no, we can't ignore the tags.

usually bug is visible by white color...if anybody has tag of your enemie, but it is white in your hud, then it is a bug on your side...

bug or not, it happens very rarely and Tags should be followed as well as IDs

This doesn't make any sense. How could other people's computer be seeing my playership having a different Tag, and having this problem fixed only when they relog be my problem? Network and programing-wise, I don't see how that is even a possible deduction.

What if your Tag is friendly to them? I assume it should be Green then? Because in the specific case I spoke of, I was Friendly to the pirate that was demanding I drop my cargo.

Nikko, stop yelling please. We're trying to help, not accuse you of being the problem.

I'm saying it may be you because of possible lag issues on your end. The server pings you to ask what kind of tag you have, gets a lagged answer that is wrong, and sends it out to other players. By this time, it has received an unlagged answer from your PC, but the other players still have the lagged data. NOTE: this is not a scientifically documentable proof, this is a brainstorm.

Allow me to re-asses my capitalized words. I'll use an underline or something instead, I was just being lazy, not yelling. >_>

That's a logical conclusion, but there's no way I can be the only one; it's not like I'm on dial-up or something. I'm sure no one cares about me being here anyways, but it's ruining my RPing experience, and I'll not be bothered with a game like this if it continues to disrupt my play. Which is disappointing, cause this shows plenty of promise for a free game.

Edit: Voila, no capitalized words ma cherie.

I'd like to addenum; this is not something that happens infrequently. Furthermore I'm aware that this is probably not going to get anywhere, but it is a problem that should be taken note of by the Devs. Or perhaps, everyone should be forced to have a tag, but you should be able to choose which one from the Alignments area. It'd take a bit of the challenge out of getting the tag you want, but considering this is an RP Server, it makes little sense that every character starts at Manhattan with a neutral tag anyways...

First off, I understand.

Second, where did you get the game from? Depending on the site, it may contain excess stuff that can ruin the game to a certain extent. The total size of the ISO shouldn't be over 640MB or so. (Not sure of the real size atm, not at my PC. Oh, and I'm one of the few that actually owns an original disc >.>)

Third: I'm a guy.

Fourth: Considering that the idea behind the game is that civilians are stepping up to the plate of intersystem politics, I feel it makes perfect sense. I do agree that having a billion people all from Manhattan in Starfleas with exactly 8.5k is a bit stretching it.

Tags are a fast and easy affiliation, viewable at range. If you don't know if you're supposed to shoot your target or not until you're in scanner range we're going to have a problem.

Mine's 100% legit, thank you very much. I bought the game a few years after it came out, :D.

And about the RP aspect of "Starting Out", seems like a majority of the long-term players here do similar to what I'm doing; I'm currently playing a Trader pilot, who did indeed start from the beginning here. Err, however I'd much prefer her starting point be New Tokyo, and that's what I RP. But other then that the current setup works fine.

However my next character is going to be a seasoned pilot, with a robust backstory already, and I'll be using some of the money I've earned on the trader. So I'll have to go about procuring a Tag for her (That might not even show up to half the people I meet anyways :\) even though the ship'll already be fully decked out and all that. (By the way, is there a Nomad or Wild ID? o_O)

That'd be great; if it weren't broken.
