Hello, this fix is intended for nVidia, but I am sure that has a correspondent on ATI too.

So here it is the problem, i saw many players, including me, with a weird lag and many times when i engine kill and go in straight lane the server kicks me or ban me for cheating.

The answer to this is very simple. Freelancer game should process maximum 180 FPS, the problem is that my CPU is Core i5-2500K, overclocked a bit from 3,3 Ghz to 3,4 Ghz, and the turbo mode is set to 3,8 Ghz, that's why I get in-game more than 180 FPS. I used Fraps to measure the FPS rendered and i have sometimes 200 FPS. The server app knows to process maximum 180 FPS which is good for a game since 2003, but we are almost in 2013 now, and all the tech specs are changed for us.

So we need a tool to limit the FPS rendered by a specific application.

For nVidia: Download nVidia Inspector with a Custom Language file available here

http://www20.zippyshare.com/v/9705125/file.html

Screens for nVidia Inspector

Screen #2 http://i49.tinypic.com/35hekh1.png

In screen #2 step 1 you ca put whatever value you want, but no more than 180. Remember the fact that if you have a cheap mouse, 100 FPS is more than enough. My personal recommendation is 180 FPS limit.

Don't forget to apply changes in order to save the new configuration.

For other video cards, you can use FPS Limiter but it's not really a limit, the game will render 180 FPS any time constantly if you set so, so it's not a really good idea but it's the only one for integrated graphics i think.

For FPS Limiter you can create a batch with the following content

FPS_Limiter.exe /f:180 C:\Path\To\Freelancer.exe

180 can be replaced with your target FPS. I recommend first method. This you must use when everything don't work for you.

DXtory can also do much the same.

Another solution; set your screen refresh rate to the maximum of what your monitor can display, and enable Vsync from your display driver. That will force your maximum FPS to be exactly as your monitor's refresh rate (below 180 fps).

I capped my FPS to 120, if I disable Vsync, I'll hit 300+ fps.

i forgot to mention, if you want to put 175 limit for example, you must put it in HEX format

How? By capturing everything you do in game? That's an awful solution. Wink

Just enable V-Sync in the game (and make sure your video driver isn't set to always turn V-sync off even if the application specifies it should be on). Will solve this in a hurry.

Either turn v-sync on yes or get the recording program dxtory.

And simply cap to 170fps.
That is not the FPS that it records on.

175 is a bit too close to the border as it sometimes tends to fly a few FPS over it.

Edit:
There are some other solutions to cap your FPS, but I found replacing dxtory for fraps a lot easier.
