Wanting Feedback on Faction Idea

EDIT:: I have been talked out of this idea but still read it if you like, still think it rather cool:). Any suggestions on how to do a similar faction without the "religion" aspect would be helpful.


Hello everyone!

I have been tossing around this idea in my head for a little while now. I think it would add greatly to the game play of this server to have a lawful "Crusader" faction. This faction would be a radical Bounty Hunter group lead by the character Lorde who discovered ancient texts long lost from earth. Inspired to seek out the heretics and sinners of Sirius while attempting to convert along the way, preaching the word of *insert deity name here*, they would band together to purge who they see as the “unclean”.

Of course financial backing of this noble cause is always welcome and sometimes… strongly, encouraged. Through this faction Crusades will be formed to strike into unlawful space just as the unlawfuls do into, oh say…. New York all the time? In short when the unlawfuls see a lot of Crusader tagged characters come online they know the pain is coming. These Crusaders would be instructed as part of their doctrine to never flee from combat as victory will always be theirs with the backing of the oh so great! *insert deity name here!*, should one flee they will be put on trial for heresy and be possibly cast out / labeled KoS by all Crusaders.

These are just some starting ideas I have been mulling over and will elaborate on them soon if I feel people somewhat like this faction proposal. Well thanks for reading this and please give me your thoughts! I am new relatively to this server and this is my first faction idea, I could use any and all the input I can get from the community!

Edit:: This faction would be lawful with the same enemies as the BH, this Idea is more to provide interesting Role Play than anything else.

Edit:: This faction idea is still very open ended and still needs a lot of work. I am aware of this and by no means think this to be a complete layout for this proposal.

Oh boy. If this ever happens... let's just say that the only thing that Jason Moore hates more than Xenos is religious fanatics.

Let's just say that the community as a whole frowns on factions that use religion (still not sure how the Angus.Dei got through the door, but I haven't seen them active at all). Not a huge fan of the idea.

hhmm not a very encouraging first post... well I just feel that it makes sense for an RP environment to have religious sects pop up and would add greatly to the game. As you said Moore hates people like this yet there are none like them to hate? Not very fun to RP that.... Thank you for your input.

Well as I said they would be Lawful, basically having the same standing as the BH maybe a few changes but nothing beyond that.

I can already feel the weight of the more experienced players crashing down on me for my presumption at thinking up a faction so soon.

I am not trying to make this faction official right now, nor am thinking of doing it anytime soon. This was simply an idea i thought of and wanted to discuss with the community. It would just be a twist on the BH, their standing but with some interesting role play behind it, not a faction who would attack everyone.

I'm thinking it's a great idea, but Agnus Dei already did something like it. I would first check up with them if they are around, I think Oniros posted that the faction is over, but I am not sure. Ask them, they would appreciate the activity.

It's not that we're angry at you for making a faction "too soon" (well, some might be, but not me at least), but that it seems too open ended. You don't seem to have any concrete goals for them, and nor do there seem to be any real restrictions on your actions with the exception of "don't kill lawfuls. Unless they piss us off." I think that the idea is interesting, and certainly has merit, but would have to be implemented in a very structured way, with very mature people. It would be difficult to pull off correctly. Seems to me to resemble the actual medieval crusaders, which IS interesting, due to the rampant corruption in their ranks, their intimidation tactics, general thuggery, and self-righteousness.

Yes it is open ended and yes I may have been listening to the "Kingdom of Heaven" soundtrack when I thought it up haha. However, it is only open ended now as I just wanted to throw the general idea around more than anything. I would want help defining the faction better of course.

It seems my idea wasn't too original however as i just checked out the Agnus Dei. I'm kind of sad to hear that this faction didn't get off the ground as it sounded rather cool. Even though there is the similarity with regards to the religious aspect the idea that these faction members would be BH with a twist sets them apart. Also they would be more hunty less preachy, and yes some corruption could enter the ranks making for some interesting RP.

I feel if a faction like this took off it would add to the richness of the Discovery server in many ways.

In my opinion re-create your faction that doesn't include religion...all religions comes with controversy...alot of the people here on the server likely agree with me that religion should be left out of Freelancer. Just think about what Real world religions did in their pasts, it wasn't good...
