So this question was raised earlier on skype. Sometimes some players/groups/faction contact POB owners and ask them for money in order to not shoot their base, or when a police faction threatens an owner to pay the registration fees. An inrp threat perfectly fine. But what if its done in an oorp way?
Example:
A player contacts a lawful POB owner ingame, from a lawful player of the same house and asks him for an X ammount of credits. Says that he has a group of players from an unlawful faction; and if the owner refuses to pay he will wipe out the base; if the player pays instead, he will spare the base and actually protect it.
Is this kind of extortion ok, or is it considered a sanctionable oorp threat? Or just handled as oorp chatter? I is confuz
While there's nothing directly pertaining to this sort of thing in the rules, I would say that if evidence was provided, the Administration team would likely look into taking some form of action.
Honestly, that sort of thing is not okay, and it's pretty low of a person to do something like that.

Yes I agree it is pretty despicable, but would it also not be classed as piracy? As the player is extorting the base owner, demanding credits in exchange for his/his bases life, I'd say thats piracy. So if I was in that suitation I'd post a 6.9 violation. Of course it does nothing about the likely revenge attacks from the offending player and his "mates"
Where is the difference ´between blackmailing them in game or blackmailing them in forum or skype as long as it is in RP?
If the blackmailer got its info in-game(easy to prove if he have screens of the base etc.) he still can blackmail you, even if he got the base location via OORP way it is not possible to prove that.
In this case the blackmailer is idiot because he could use his OORP Info to drop a RP comm msg to the owners but actually the results are the same at the end so who cares...
~fellow that blackmailed bunch of base owners and made bunch of billions via this method.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)
I know, blackmailing is perfectly valid RP, and its not how he acquired the information of the base either; but the way the stunt was pulled. A lawful player extorting a lawful base owner, in an ooc conversation, telling him about his unlawful friends, demanding money.
Thanks everyone for their input on the matter, if anyone has anything to add feel free to do so.
if you get information on a lawfull character you cannot share it with your unlawfull. Ok people tend to do this for their own gain. (metagaming) Even a corrupt cop can be treated as a pirate in that way. As he extorts you for money. i would collect proof and report him with the house wich he is involved with. (inRP)
