Hey all,

Not putting any names in this, never have been interested in getting people in trouble.

So, I have started an indi pirate char, first time out I bump into another pirate in Alberta and we team up. Now, he goes off to another side of the system and finds some miners and transports and hits them up. Now, he then tells me where they are and I head over to do the same.

When I do show up, I do the typical "yar, ye be gettin pirated"

Well, the fellow who was mining flipped and started ranting oorp in system about, "we just payed the other guy! you are in the same group! I have screen shots, I will get you perma-banned for this!"

Well, it had been a long time since I looked the rules over. So, after some chatter I throw up my hands and fly away.

After that I gave the rules (Discovery Community Forum and Server Rules) a full read, and I saw nothing that said I was doing anything wrong here.

Any event, am I missing something here? Some rules about how one can and cannot behave in a group? (what I was doing was kinda douchy I do admit, but really I was only grouped with the fellow for an easy exchange of info, we were not a "team" as such. Could have done the same thing in PM)

Thanks,

No nothing wrong with that...

Actually they broke the rules by threatning you with sanctions!

There is no rule against multi-pirating, but generally I don't see people doing it.
If anything, your amigo should share the load. That's usually what happens.

You have to be careful with haulers, miners and traders. They will try to pull out every excuse to prevent being pirated. Here are some example:
"Hey! You can't pirate me! I have no cargo!"
"Hey! You can't pirate me twice in one day!"
"Hey! You're only allowed to pirate x amount of credits if you're an indie!"

FYI, the list goes on :/

When that happens to me (and it does often) I just blow them up and carry on...

Thanks,

not agains the rules and he broke the rules if he threatened you with a report but you should however try and enforce fair play. If you are goign to pirate with someone else dont double your demand and dont pirate the same guy if you are waiting in 2 different parts of the same system (share the loot)

mind you that isnt required but some fair sportsmanship is what this server is lacking.

Not against the rules, but it's an uncool-move imo.

food for thought ( mostly about rule 0.0 - disruption of gameplay )

- 6 GC are grouped - but only one is always on scanners
- they camp 6 lane segments in new tokyo
- a trader gets disrupted by the first. - he is asked 3 million or be destroyed. RP requirements are more than met - and the trader pays up
- next lane segment he meets the 2nd GC - that asks for 3 million with sufficient RP aswell. - the trader pays up and attempts to leave.
- next lane segment he meets the 3rd GC that also asks for 3 million
- the trader leaves the lane and attempts to cruise to the next secure station but is stopped by the 4th GC just out of scanner range of the 3rd and asked for another 3 million

and so on - until he is asked 6 times for a total of 18 million

there is one rule that might apply ( other than 0.0 )

since they are all grouped - the trader can sum up the demand - if the demand exceeds reason ( in that case 18 million ) - the pirates violated the rules since they were grouped.

if they were not grouped - it would be harder for the trader to prove how coordinated the attack was.

the first reaction is:

- but of course - when its done 6 times it is a dick move
---> the amount of times is of no concern - it does not matter if you do it 2 times or 20 times

the usual consensus is that you pirate a trader once in a system - and you can pirate him again when he has left and re-entered the system.

miners do not leave the system that much - but their disadvantage in general is that they are easier to find and have a harder time to be protected ( no forward scouting ) and they cannot evade an encounter.

personally- i d leave a miner the "death downtime" till i hit him again ( which is now 2 hours i think )

when i am not the only pirate of my faction in the system - i would PM the other pirate and ask him if he has hit [insert miners name] and for how much - that way i can assess if i do want to hit him again - and if i do - for how much in reasonable terms.

in general - a trader who has met the demands of a group of pirates has met his end of the deal - and is not to be asked again till he leaves the system. or you could CD him immedietely after he payed up and ask for more.

keep in mind: as a pirate your ROLE is to be scum - but as a player your role is to always consider how the other one feels and make his gameplay experience as good as yours.

edit:

being grouped is always more than just easy information exchange in terms of rules. - back when piracy in capital ships was not allowed. it was not allowed to group up with a capital ship - and pirate with the capital ship in sight of the piracy event.

in general - the miners might have been ranting ooc and threatening with rules. - but i would not blame them for it, cause the double piracy was rather nasty - and in fact - they had a point about you being grouped with the pirate before. the first pirate - when grouped with you - would have asked for both of you since you were one group.

one group makes one demand for all of its members.

Jinx, whoever manages to get pirated 6 times in one system on one trip as you described must be an utter moron.
I don't see why should be the opposite party sanctioned for trader's incompetence.

Well the post above is true but sometimes people abuse the fairplay claiming to have been pirated even if they weren't... That is why I don't take much notice of their claims... Until I get some credits someone is getting blown up... I never ask for too much anyway...

There is no rules broken however, it is a dirty play...

Try to put in his situation - how 'happy' You could be if You were pirated
by same person or same group 2 or more times in the row?
