The title is pretty self-evident here. I'm considering organising an official Discovery short story competition (pending approval from the rest of the team). The general idea would be to give people a month to write a short story (of no more than 5,000 words) which would have to be written and completed during that time.

Stories would be marked by volunteer admins or moderators - or possibly others who're interested in participating. The prize for the winning stories could include in-game rewards and the winning story being temporarily pinned and recieving a front-page news article. I'd be happy to help those who have English as a second language with spelling and grammar.

So, is this something you'd all be interested in, and would people like me to organise this?

I think Marburg organized something like this before, if I am not mistaken. It was damn fun to read, really. Go for it!

make it so.

the usual gig with short story competitions is for the organiser to give the title, and judge the best story from that - it means then that anyone submitting the story is really unlikely to have previously written one to that exact title, and therefore the playing field is even. this stops people submitting stories that were written previously and polished over several months

I am keen and support this fully.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

This idea is totally nuts. I mean it's great.

I saw this type of competitions on another forum and I dare say, they were quite popular.

But like Coin said... make some kind of theme or set of rules for any competition specifying the title/theme/and other stuff.

But, this is a really good idea. One of the few good ideas i've seen recently.

This is a very good idea - I'll be keeping that one, ta.

And you're right - I'm modelling this on previous competitions. I think the first one was run by Mwerte when he was a moderator, and Marburg ran another. Props to those guys for the inspiration.

By the way, make sure you all vote one way or another on the poll - it'll make gauging opinion much easier.

I like the idea.
It'll be something new for me to try.

A nice idea and something I'd be interested in. However there's no chance of my being able to work towards this until exams are over Sad I assume that many others might also be in the same boat.

Jammi, one thing tho. Now that you gave away the surprise, have your peeps decide on a theme. Otherwise people are going to start writing now and everyone should get an equal amount of time to flesh it out. 8| and it could be more fun.

That is true.

It'll be interesting to see erotic fiction for Disco as a theme.
Fifty Sabres of Grey anyone?
