seeing as we (meaning you and i, you refering to the person reading this....which means everyone i guess :P) have very similar interest.
i have come to the conclusion that there is a high probability that we enjoy much of the same video games. AND i'm certain that most everyone has or has had a PS2 at some point in your gaming career.
so....
what are the best games for the PS2? i'm looking to expand my collection.
a few things to consider:
- i have absolutely no friends and my wife doesn't like video games so i'll need games that are good for singleplayer.
- they'll need good replay value
- i'm not a huge fan of sports games except for boxing.
- racing games are "ok" they just aren't my first choice.
The best game I played on PS2 is probably Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Great story, great gameplay, great graphics.
If you're into Cold War espionage with an extra twist, buy it. (Having played previous Metal Gear Solid games is recommended though)
Ofcourse there are the Grand Theft Autos too and especially Canes Canem Edit by the same developers.
It's a bit the same style as Grand Theft Auto, but without the violence, carjacking and drugs dealing. Basically you're a kid in a boarding school that has to stand up for himself. The game had some negative critics because it encouraged bullying or whatever... don't let that part scare you. It's a brilliant game.
-MGS, GTA and CCE have a brilliant singleplayer (actually don't have a multi) and you'll enjoy it for a long time.
-I've played MGS 3 or 4 times, just because the story and such was awesomeness. Ended GTA Vice City twice and San Andreas three times.
Replay value? You bet.
-Sports? Well, you can fight in all those games I mentioned... euhm
-There are racing contests in GTA series and a bicycle race in Canes Canem Edit.
Phew, there you go. I might have more memorable games on the PS2, but those are the ones I really remember. (Oh, Socom series are fun too)
My top three is Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Kingdom Hearts I & II.
Kingdom Hearts blew me away, I love the series and the blend of my old childhood favorites and the Final Fantasy blend works well too.
A good game I have heard of is Final Fantasy XII, however I have not played it myself.
One of my favorites is Burnout Revenge, great fun, and frustration at the stupid truck coming the wrong way down the frigging road I just want to murder that driver!!!
Ratchet and Clank, each sequel succesively better than the first, well worth picking up all 3 main games and playing thoruigh the mildly connected storylines.
GTA has been mentioned
MGS 3 mentioned, do not buy MGS2 it's bad.
Final Fantasy X and XII, both excellent examples of J-RPGs not much in the way of replay, but then if you're going for everything you'll be spending some 120+ hours on the game anyway.
Burnout 3 Takedown. Crash cars. Lots. It's fun and by far the best of the Burnout games.
Kingdom Hearts are good examples of western RPGs
Gran turismo 4 is the racing game, at leats until GT5 comes out for PS3. First game ever to feature hi-def compatibility too, so it looks epic on a good telly.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
Oh right, Final Fantasy XII. It has a nice atmosphere and I really wanted to finish the game, but unfortunately I got stuck somewhere (couldn't beat that boss that becomes your first summon beast or something).
I always like the atmosphere in Final Fantasy games, but I'm really bad at them.
Yes...Driver 3...sorry but i aways been a driver fan...still have the all the Driver games.
Encounters In Space I mastered in 5 hours and played for many years. GT-4 why I'm playing it now!... I'm just watching them race...though it lack the ability to choose the AI cars...I hate how that always have a car that far to slow.
