I often ask 3M for a passage and since a few hours, 10M for a respectable time (4 hours)
Some traders (after i killed them cause they refuse, finally they lose more than my 3M i ask) said i ask too much and it may be against rules ... but where is it written ? I can ask 10M for only a passage, I respect again laws when killing them cause they don't want to pay.
In addition, only a few traders accept, indeed they earn 5M credits at least for their route, and 10M for 4 hours, personnaly i earn 120M in this time, its a good deal no ? If it continue, I'll ask a terrorist ID for i can use a destroyer to kill them:)
and finally, i want to know something. One of them (traders) after 2 times i killed him, bought a rheinland gunboat and chased me. Isn't it a re-engagement from his part ? (no disruptors launched, i didn't fire ... so no engagement from me, I've seen he change his ship)
This reaction made me laugh a lot cause he finally lose more than 100M only for refuse to pay 3M per passage, and only in 40 mins, buying his gunboat, turrets, returning to Nurember for his adv train, hahahahaha (and he didn't killed me, it was a dragon destroyer:D)
Wow. A whole story could be written about that encounter... NOT!
Reingagement... nope... I don't think so. But if he had say another character already developed and used it... I'd see that as re engagement. This was just an exercise in wasted time and funds, I believe. I loved the ending though. heh.
There is no set amount, by the way... charge what you like.
I am new so i am not real sure on this. I think if i read correctly you can as a pirate ask any amount within reason (i guess that would be determined if a complaint was filed) so 10 mil from a merchant running an advanced train for 4 hrs is reasonable unless he just bought it and is broke (i am sure this line is used a lot) but say the pirate has a grudge against a merchant trader for getting away while he was busy with another merchant or just plain in a bad position to stop the trader so when he stops him he demands say 50 million credits knowing the merchant will not pay just so he can blow him away. I think if a complaint is filed in that case the pirate would be sanctioned.
This line however disturbs me.
"(and he didn't killed me, it was a dragon destroyer biggrin.gif)"
That sounds as if you were in a Dragon destroyer and if so and you were pirating you need to be sanctioned for pirating in a cap ship That IS against the rules.
Actually, if you killed him and he bought a new ship, came back and attacked you (after only 40 minutes), that is against the rules, as it is re-engaging.
basically its good not to ask a trader for more then his cargo size in thousands, (say asking a transport for 1m, or an adv train for 5m), there is no actual rule about this, its just courtesy.
The only thing is you must ask for a reasonable amount. No asking lvl 35 traders for 5m etc, that can amount to terrorism.
Alright, then I suppose I should ask the community this:
Do I tax too much?
I have a indie BD that operates mainly in Chugoku and Hokkaido. The amount I tax (level 60 and above) almost always amounts to the profit they'd make on the trip. Example... 5000 units of diamonds? 4m tax. 5000 units of niobium? 6m tax (or, for either one, not pay and drop the cargo).
The goal is to get them to start using tradelanes (honshu-newtokyo-kyushu) again and not go through hostile systems. So far, it's been working brilliantly, but I've had many victims threaten me with sanction for taxing them too high.
When I did a brief stint as a pirate, I charged 1mil - 2mil max.
The rationale behind this, was that a.) I wanted to get paid with a minimum of tantrum throwing and b.) encourage the trader to rp without causing him too much inconvenience. I would rather rp and tax then chase someone across a system only to blow him up.
I've traded since forever and let me tell you, I've never been too happy to bump into a pirate asking for more than 2mil after a long, tedious and inconvenient run. Thus far, I've always been able to cut a deal with pirates - fortunately.
If you want boatloads of cash, trade like everyone else. Taxing is primarily for rp-purposes, not to get rich. It's also not to a punishment for traders, who don't use trade lanes. Kind of an odd argument. To my knowledge, trade lane users get pirated too.

Not exactly a punishment, but discourage them from passing through Chugoku and Hokkaido... in RP, the Dragons and GC don't like traders using it as a highway, because it brings unwanted traffic AND lawfuls/bounty hunters "protecting" their traders.
