Trade Routes
I'm skeptical that we should post good routes- its a bit of a spoiler, isn't it?
Although, I suppose anyone using the wiki is looking for spoilers anyway, and it'll get people off the diamond run. Before fully populating it, though, I think we should do some discussion either here or on the forums.
-Sovereign

I agree that this is something of a spoiler, and would rather have only well-known routes - i.e. routes between houses that should be 'public' in character.
- Wrathkin 13:31, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

The whole column is redundant with the Common Trade Routes page, so I'd say get rid of it.
Agreed. Plus, a lot of commodities have multiple good trade routes...
Sovereign 20:06, 27 May 2008 (GMT)

I suggest to use the Common Trade Routes column for attributes like contraband or perishable instead of putting those things in the name column.
The routes are also going to change in 4.85. So these are redundant. I think people need to find their own routes. Otherwise we could be encouraging powertrading etc...
If nobody declines my idea, i will do that this week. And I will try to add all linked commodities.

0815fips 12:33, 29 Oct 2008 (GMT+1)

Go for it. I have no problem with removing the routes. If someone seriously objects we can always undo. However..I would ask that anyone who DOES object to the removal of the commodity routes discuss and give us good reasons why they think it should be there. Currently the reasons for removing are 1)they will be changed in 4.85 and may continue to change in the future hence putting information that changes often make for redundant information, 2)having those particular routes on the wiki is a thing best "discovered for yourself". If you want a "walkthrough", chances are you are powertrading, which is something strongly discouraged at Discovery RP server. 3)there is already a trade page, as mentioned above. Use that.
Recent Discussion
I've been looking at this page. I'm wondering if we could come up with a check list table. One column would be "perishable", one would be "rarity"?, and some others could be legal status in the various houses. This means that we could get rid of "Perishables" in the commodity name as well. Perhaps something like the below:
(Note: There are two different options in the available from; There is people group and general area. There are also two different options shown in the Legal status columns. Y/N or ill/leg. Let me know which is better.)

"The LB/KU/BR/RH/GA columns are to show in what house each commodity is illegal. '*' Designates special conditions."
Image Size
Hi mate. :)
There's no maximum size for images (well there is a 50mg limit but any pictures that get bigger than 1 meg I'll be having a good long hard look at re-doing it. I prefer high quality pics to lower quality one.

I also prefer .jpgs, as gifs can look pixelly. I've left your changes for the filetype, but have removed the maximum file size part from the Style Guide Commodities page.<br> ~Chovynz~ (Blabs • Ego) 14:29, 29 July 2009 (MDT)

:Ok, i will follow your orders. When I started adding .gifs I was thinking about the filesize of high quality .jpg images. gifs have 1/5 of them. Therefore I wanted to reduce the size, but you are right, gifs can only contain 256 different colors, so they are bad for gradients. From now on I will user .jpgs again.<br>
: The thing with commodities is that there are going to come a lot of new ones in 4.85 and the selling locations of the old ones can change too. So putting a lot of effort right now can be somewhat waste of time. It's good to think the template ready before 4.85. The Minable header is a link where all the minable commodities are already listed. I have no opinion about the point 2) you raise. Some of the commodities already have a "selling location" header. And that is problem because we now have two "templates" in use and the situation will get worse every time someone copy pastes new commodity. Synth Paste is a proprietary food product of Synth Foods, Inc. that is widely distributed throughout Sirius. Synthesized in research centers, this grey, engineered cellulose plant matter can flourish even in the most harsh and arid environments where it's grown, and later is processed into Synth Paste after being flavored artificially in industrial laboratories. While Synth Paste is very adaptable and can be grown in huge quantities, surpassing typical agricultural techniques, it is viewed with suspicion by some due to its unorthodox manufacturing process. Its sale has forced many regular farmers out of business, but despite the formation of such opposition movements as the LWB and Farmers Alliance, it remains the most popular food product on the market today.
Thousands of years ago the distinctive coloration of Cobalt was used to create blue-tinged glass that was admired throughout the known world. Since that time, Cobalt has become recognized as a strategic metal with diverse military and commercial applications. Brittle in its unalloyed form, Cobalt Alloys exhibit tremendous hardness and resistance to corrosion. When combined with Niobium, the resulting High Temperature Alloy can withstand even the intense heat and pressure generated by the combustion chamber of a fusion engine.

Precautions
Although cobalt is an essential element for life in minute amounts, at higher levels of exposure it shows mutagenic and carcinogenic effects similar to nickel (see Cobalt Poisoning).Powdered cobalt in metal form is a fire hazard. After nickel and chromium, cobalt is a major cause of contact dermatitis.

Cobalt-60<br>
60Co is a high-energy gamma ray emitter. Acute high-dose exposures to gamma emissions can cause severe burns and death. Extended exposures increase the risk of morbidity or mortality from cancer. Nuclear weapon designs could intentionally incorporate 59Co, some of which would be activated in a nuclear explosion to produce 60Co. The 60Co, dispersed as nuclear fallout, creates what is sometimes called a dirty bomb or cobalt bomb.
Description
Boron is an essential element in a number of industrial processes. In its fibrous form, Boron filaments are used as a stiffener in the creation of Ship Hull Panels, lending them unparalleled structural integrity. An isotope of Boron, Boron-10, is also used for control rods in the nuclear reactors that power large ships, stations, and planet-side bases.

Precautions
Elemental boron is nontoxic and common boron compounds such as borates and boric acid have low toxicity (approximately similar to table salt with the lethal dose being 2 to 3 grams per kilogram) and therefore do not require special precautions while handling.
A mixture of uranium oxide (UO2) and a small (<3%) portion of weapons-grade plutonium, MOX is the primary fuel for the nuclear reactors used aboard large spacecraft and the monstrous blast furnaces of manufacturing platforms. MOX is typically formed into ceramic pellets that are then loaded into zirconium fuel elements and packaged for transport. It is an efficient source of energy that utilizes a large percentage of recycled materials and exhibits only trace radiation, thus posing little threat to the environment.

Civilian ID is handed to every beginning freelancer. On role-playing servers, the ID item serves as your RP identity; in addition to that, the ID works as the tractor beam of your ship for picking up cargo floating in space. Don't lose or unmount this item, and transfer it each time you buy a new ship, otherwise you will be unable to tractor goods in space.

According to Discovery RP 24/7 server rules, the Civilian ID is valid until player reaches level 40. After reaching level 40, the player MUST choose a faction to join and confirm the choice by buying a non-Civilian ID. The cost of IDs ranges from 40 thousand to 1 million credits, and they can be found on the primary bases or planets of all the Sirius factions. The ID will only be buyable if the player is on friendly terms with appropriate faction. Several types of IDs exist: freelancer, military, mercenary, trader, pirate, terrorist, and neutral; different IDs have different ship and action restrictions listed in the end of their descriptions. Never forget to transfer your ID each time you buy a new ship.

Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters

Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime. Note that the Civilian ID is exempt from being able to be attacked by anyone, unless they enter a Guard system, attack another player or are in the Connecticut system.

Note that different Discovery servers might have different rules regarding ID usage. Refer to the rules of your server in order to know how different ID types should be used.
Wine is an alcoholic beverage that has been a part of many cultures since the beginning of human civilization. It is produced by fermenting crushed grapes using various types of yeast which consume the sugars found in the grapes and convert them into alcohol. Virtually all wines originate from Gallia, and there is a thriving market for them across Sirius, where real alcohol is in short supply.
Not many citizens of Sirius houses can afford space travels. VIP's are mostly businessmen, government officials, celebrities or top-tier criminals. They prefer to travel in comfort, but as armored transports are favourite attack targets for many terroristic groups operating in Sirius, they might also hire freelancers to get to distant places of interest in safety. Each VIP takes up to 5 standard units of cargo space, yet they usually complain about how crowded your ship is! Don't worry about complaints, they always pay what they promised in the end of the journey.
The introduction of quantum computing made possible an exponential increase in the algorithmic processes that could be computed simultaneously by a single processing core. Quantum multiplexers are necessary to enable multiple complex systems to be regulated by a single quantum signal matrix instead of each system requiring its own matrix to communicate with the quantum processor core. This translates to savings in physical space, energy consumption, and an overall increase in system efficiency.
A heavy, malleable, ductile, precious, gray-white transition metal, platinum is resistant to corrosion and occurs in some nickel and copper ores along with some native deposits. The most common use of platinum is as a catalyst in chemical reactions. Platinum is used as an alloying agent for various metal products, including fine wires, noncorrosive laboratory containers, medical instruments, jewelry, dental equipment, electrical contacts, and thermocouples. Platinum's wear and tarnish resistance characteristics are well suited for making fine jewelry. Platinum is more precious than gold.
