First there was nothingness. Then there was light. A big bright light. It was blurry at first, but gradually came into focus.
Suddenly the light became a lot brighter. The construct closed her eyes against the irritant. She was an artificial life-form, created out of silicon and not carbon. Looking at her own hand, she sees blueish-gray skin and dark blue fingernails.
She sat up. A figure in a trench coat and gas mask was staring back at her. Who was this mysterious figure? Not knowing anything, she instinctively tried downloading information over the Neurocyte network, only to get something about access being denied. Whatever that means.
Clearly the strange figure in the corner has something to do with all this. But what, exactly? The construct looked at the figure for answers.
A smile curled upon his lips, hidden by the featureless, inhuman mask he wore. She was alive! She worked! He tried not to rock on his heels to show his excitement. It was truly a break-through, and it didn't cease to exist after five minutes like the last forty-three subjects.
He stepped a few paces behind himself, folding his gloved arms behind his back. He looked her up and down with a hint of awe in his mind. Her skin was a few tones off, but that would wear off after the next phase. He liked to think of it as 'priming'.
"Construct Zero-Zero-Zero-Zero-One. Welcome to life,"He said in a dry, warped voice. The vocoder worked to instill fear and anonymity. Perhaps she wouldn't understand that and fear him? Slight side-effect, she'd learn."I want you to acknowledge my reply,"He said in a rather unfeeling voice.
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
The figure spoke. What the figure was saying was lost on the construct, but she turned to look at the figure while continuing to try and download information. What does 'privilege unassessed' mean, anyway? Something that causes more confusion?
Since the figure didn't offer much to see, the construct proceeded to look around the room. A neurocyte terminal sat on the far end next to a closed door. Various pods, consoles, and apparatus were scattered about the room. The room itself was a soft, almost sterile blue.
She took a closer look at the figure. Really, there wasn't much to see. Just a coat, mask, boots, and gloves. But this was the only moving object in the room, and it spoke. There just had to be something special about it.
The construct got up to take a closer look. Maybe a close inspection would reveal something.
Touching. Why is it always touching? She practically stood a few inches from him, her face barely touching his mask. A soft hand caressed the mask, not affectionately, but curiously. The cameras had been activated to record this test, so every second was captured in high detail.
His hand came up to grasp her wrist, pushing her away."Sorry, but that is not something you should do. It's rather rude,"He said softly. She seemed to not understand, more confusion twisting across her face. "Access language file Three Dash Oh Eight Nine,"he spoke rather mechanically, little emotion in his voice.
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
Why did the strange figure push her away? There was so much she didn't understand. And how was she supposed to understand it when there was no way to learn how?
As if on cue, a language pack became available to download over the neurocyte network. She immediately proceeded to download it, and suddenly what the strange figure was saying made a lot more sense.
