I'm a newbie player to FL and the Discovery mod, hope to join the online community soon.
I'm playing through the SP Discovery mod campaign, and had some questions regarding levelling, both in singleplayer and multiplayer. I used the search function extensively, and had a lot of my initial questions answered.
1) Is the only way to advance in levels is to do the Juni missions? I know from reading various posts, that your level is based on net worth, but it seems to me from playing so far that you "plateau out" and can't advance further until you've completed the next mission - I'm level 3 so far, and my next level requirement says "Mission". Is that correct? (keep in mind, I've only gotten to level 3 so far; I apologize for my noobishness).
2. If the above is correct, if I play the online multiplayer, will I still have to go through all the missions to advance to a high enough level to have access to the larger ships? I've read several threads regarding new players, and the gist of some of them is that its not hard in a short amount of time to advance and make cash if you're willing to work. But if you throw in the missions, doesn't that make the levelling up harder to do?
I have searched all over these forums and LancerReactor and have read alot about levelling up after lvl 38 - but the levelling process below lvl 38 is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out a bit here.
1)Yes. In single player Freelancer, the only way to level up is to take missions from Juni when you're supposed to. After the main campaign, (around level 20), your level starts to be determined by net worth (like it would be online). The only difference is that the level cap is 38.
2)You do not need to go through any of the main story missions online (as a matter of fact, you can't). You simply start off with a few thousand credits, and advance by gaining more money. And no, you can't import characters from Single Player into MP (in case you were wondering).
Thanks! That was the answer I was hoping for, really wasn't looking forward to having to grind through the same missions over and over in multiplayer. I just bought my copy of FL from Amazon, and it was just the disk, no manuals or anything. Thanks again for the help.
Well.. Missions aren't the only way of getting a higher level. Looting wrecks is even more profitable. Snatch the cadamine from one of those badlands wrecks and bang! You can now buy a liberty HF Those all wrecks go nicely, proportionally to where in the campaign you are. beginning of the campagn? Weak Liberty wrecks End? Codenames. During the whole campaign I didn't have to do one mission to be filthy rich.
