Do you guys know any reliable software that can be used to check whether adult pages were watched?
Not a keylogger to steal passwords or whatnot. Just a tool to check if a kid was watching things he shouldn't. Preferably freeware. Since it's needed for a short period of time, fully functional trial versions are ok.
Operating system: Windows XP.
Already googled for such things, but I'm not sure whether those free tools aren't in fact rootkits/some malicious software. And it's annoying to try out dozens of them only to discover that it actually warns about its activity.
well, close enough. For future reference though, the proper spot for software related questions is in the software area

Agmen: Good idea. However I'm not sure how to do this. I'll try tu use history via slogger and/or FF Sync (it's in options).

And if needed I can talk you through it all if you want.
Much appreciated. I'll consult the router's manual first. It is so frustrating to feel outsmarted in computers. :-)

Most routers do not support such logging. No, you'll want some kind of parental control tool for this, usually a local proxy server that the browser will be forced to connect to. Downside: Most kids who know how to browse porn on the web will also find their way to pages with tools to disable and clear these PG tools.

Assuming they're a teenager, it'd probably be your best bet (coming from another teenager), and honestly, by watching them you won't stop it. If they're really intent on accessing content you don't want them to access, they'll find a way short of you disconnecting them from their PC.
TL;DR
Trust your kid (or talk to them) and don't waste harddrive space with programs that clog up the PC.
It's not my kid (there's a whole long story which I won't tell anyway).
The whole issue is about checking (once) if porn is watched, not blocking it. Because, frankly, I see no way to really stop it, too. It can only lead to technological arms race, which I can't win.
Muchas gracias.
