If you have a big group of players who'd like to all do something together, there's quite a few factions who are hard pressed to meet the official status quota.
I think you could really hold a lot of weight and thanks if you guys hopped in on one and took it to the top.
The main influence of official factions over indies is their inate right to be standoffish and their official right to adopt an air of superiority:angry:
Myself, I can't stand the Faction Rights, I still maintain a practice of just being happy we are a group and can work in numbers. Note that I have no belief in the term "gank", so yeah, I enjoy using numbers.

No more tech request power anymore.
I see no real benefits being official for normal factions except that some new people decide to join from time to time.
There are only ton of negative stuff and time wasters that you need to deal with.
In general it is better to be indie.
