I'll admit that although I've been somewhat eagerly anticipating the Legend of Korra for a while now, I've remained a bit wary of it after seeing a few of the teasers. I don't have any problem with the apparent time-leap, but more with the way that Korra has been characterized in the trailers. Like, angry "I'm gonna do things my way" teenager. Of course they've been marketing it toward the younger crowd (as they should, really), so I'd imagine they're trying to pitch it in a way that will allow the angry teenagers in real life to empathize with the protagonist. Maybe I'm worrying for no real reason.
I guess I'll take a look at it now and see how many of my fears are realized and how many are done away with.
Good point, actually. But let us not forget that Toph was pretty much the same, but as we can see, Korra has some traits from Katara as well. So it is not like they completely removed the original characters, they simply mixed them together. What I myself do not like is that it seems that Korra already has mastered three out of four elements, which kind of takes away the same adventure Aang went through, but I suppose if she did not, it would be a remake.
I am just wondering where are they planning to go with this, because from the first episode it really seems as if Korra will become the vigilante of...*snorts* Republic City....that is another thing. Dafuq is up with the names.
Apart from that, we can further draw lines with the characters in terms of traits. For example how Tenzin is a similar role of Monk Gyatso.

It seems they've kept a lot of the goofy essence of the original. which is a good thing. id expect to see old man Aang take the role of the spirit world mentor like Avatar Roku in the original.
