I have a buddy in Australia trying to host a Call of Duty 1.4 server.
He has all the gear and bought a connection specially for it. Its ADSL 2+ 20Mbp/s Download and 1Mbp/s Upload.
It costs him 100 AUD to keep the connection going and the server up, and its burning a hole in his pocket.
I was wondering...
A: What kind of connection does this server have if it can hold 200 players?
B: What would be the recomended connection for a server operating with 32 slots on a decent machine.
C: What is more important ...Upload or Download?
Your help is much appreciated!

Hes not capped, Unlimited usage, not limited the the Megs he can Down/Upload at any one time, month day or hour.
He runs his own wireless network for the locals. But I think he limits the connection to the specific box to about 3Mb/s?

His server is 18 slots...Renting a server would be 120 bucks a month plus 99 doller setup. Where as he pays 100 dollers to maintain the connection, has a better computer to run the server.
What I want to know. Is what a basic Call of Duty servers bandwidth is. What kind of connection it would be on...Ect...ect.
Even FL would give me an idea.

He can install a program like this one or this one.
Run it for a month and see the average bandwith usage, then ajust his internet provider plan by it.
We do not get unlimited bandwidth here, whatever you heard on the unreliable grapevine ...
We get a certain amount currently curtesy of Majkp, but it is paid for in other ways.
We are extremely lucky, as your friend has found out exactly what it should be costing.

And the answer to the question that's been missed so far is UPLOAD.
Getting download speed is easy, everyone sells that by the truckload. Getting upload is hard
because they're trying to make it hard to run servers specifically. In most ISP's rules of
use, servers are specifically banned.
I'd rather have a 10 down 5 up than a 20 down 3 up for gaming purposes. More upload is better.
