I may not be a big PvP'er, nor very skilled, but I do feel pretty sorry for people flying Vanilla or upgraded Vanilla ships in Discovery. They simply fall apart too easily after a few bashes with a gun, or God forbid a torpedo or a mine.
Those in modded craft may still have their weapons ripped off, but pieces of them never fall off, taking away the feel of the Freelancer world in my opinion. It doesn't feel like the ships were mass produced in an automated factory. The Vanilla ships are 'pieced' together, and quite rightly the pieces can be ripped off. But the mod ships are essentially bricks.
Can there be a way for developers to make the mod ships into 'pieces' or partially destructible. Or for a far swing in the opposite direction, make the vanilla ship pieces invulnerable?
I am sure this has come up before, but I'm taking a stab in the dark.
Well, I don't see why it can't be done, if you take a hawk and export it as .3ds it sorts itself into the groups that can "fall off". Theres got to be a file that controls it, unless its hardcoded...:(
If there is a file, the only thing that needs to happen is for each "Group" to be made individually, and then modify the correct file...I think.
Uhm... people have experimented with this, but to no avail. I don't yet know of any successful attempt to produce ships with destructible components. Freelancer is really, REALLY picky about its ships. Hitboxes are annoying, wire meshes are annoying, and components are annoying. And when FL gets annoyed, it has a tantrum and crashes.
