Ok, here's my personal catagorising of the capital ship weapons in Discovery:
1. Normal Turrets-Are fast, do low damage, low energy rating.eg: Liberty defence turrets
2. Cerebus turrets- Slow, medium, use high energy
3. Uber weapons- Very slow, extremely high damage, insane amount of energy. eg: razors, inferno's, mortars
Notice how theres only one turret in the mid-damage catagory? And the cerebus turrets, as well as the 'uber weapons' are quite useless at taking down large battleships and such, because they have a VERY low efficiency. My idea is to have a long range, slow speed, medium energy usage, and medium damage weapon that would be good at only taking down the battleships and cruisers (gunboats and such would be too fast for them...if they were flown well!)
Here's one for the battleship:

What do you reckon? Its pricey because it is much better efficiency than the cerebus turret and other uber-turrets. I like the name of it:D
The Cerberus used to have very good efficiency in 4.83. It was nerfed in 4.84 since it made gunboats very overpowered. Now, the current status of weaponry make for interesting setup options. Yes, I think Cerberus turrets and the heavy hitters are good enough without breaking balance. Also, 3.500 range is very long. We don't need gunboats sniping battleships while dodging all of the battleship shots due to size and manouverability.
Yeah, LOLPenguin is right, that example was for a battleship class vessel, the smaller capital class ships would come with much shorter range, similar to how the Cerebus' range is configured for all the classes of capital ships. Plus, a battleship with a bunch of normal turrets installed will beat a battleship with mortars and such; because the BS with the mortars will lose energy MUCH faster than the BS without, meaning BS with normal turrets can fire all it weapons for much longer. The uber-weapons seem quite useless to be honest.
Perhaps just the regular cerebruses would be changed to this?

Mortars arent useless, They're only useless if you use them at the start of a battle with larger capital ships (cruiser, battlecruiser, battleship classes) against their shields. A mortar is a ending hit battle kill thing.
Razors are useless however, (at least with the npcs)...
Yeah, perhaps the Cerebus should be changed to be less power-hungry or something. Nothing too drastic, but 50,000 energy usage is quite alot, even for a BS. Interesting strategy using the mortars only against the hull of a ship, it makes sense...
Oh, also, can anyone tell me what on earth the flak turrets do on a battleship? They have a range of 0m, which i find quite interesting and confusing at the same time:wacko:
