Today my Dad and I finally got round to taking out our old 1.7 Celron Ghz processor and put in the new P4 2.8 Ghz processor.
This worked all fine and xp loaded fine until I checked what speed it was running at. Only 2.1Ghz, We tracked down to problem to the motherboard bios where it was running the CPU clock speed (or "FBS" on the internet it seems) at 100mhz instead of 133mhz. So I hit the raise button on the speed until it got to 120mhz. Where it wouldn't go any further.
Now we said oh ****! our motherboard can't support it. We then draged out the manual and checked if if was able to run at 133mhz and to our suprise it said that we could run up to 160mhz. Went back and tried again and again and again to no avil. Then spent the better part of the day changing almost every setting in Bios and reseting Bios every couple of times.
Then to our sadness we decide to try and boot with 120mhz clockspeed and live with it until we could get help. Upon changing and saving the setting the screen decide not to work (another bios reset). The screen works on every setting from 100mhz to 119mhz but not 120mhz. Gave up in fits of rage and just left it a 119mhz clockspeed which works fine but only at 2.38Ghz.
The Motherboard is a Shuttle AV45GT/R (AV45GT/AV45GTR) and the Processor is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
Intel
If anyone has any idea how to fix the Motherboard so it can run at 133mhz please tell me
(If I got any of the jargon wrong I am sorry its all very confusing)

Check the manufacturer's website for BIOS updates(make sure you know what you're doing here), also if they have a forum, see if anyone else has a fix to the problem.
BIOS update is a good idea, but you must be vary careful as said above.
Overall I do suggest a new motherboard. Your performance in games will be more hindered by the video card than the processor (especially in Freelancer) The AGP chipset only supports up to a 4X. Assuming your card supports up to 8X, your card is only chugging along at half speed.
In addition, you can pick up duel core AMD packs, with Processor motherboard and RAM for like 350 bucks (less in America probably)
Just thought I would mention it:) Otherwise, careful with the BIOS!

*sigh* Bios update did nothing. It seems to be that it thinks I still have the old Celron 1.7Ghz in there. Apparently if it new I had the P4 2.8Ghz in there it would allow me to run it a full speed but it doesn't so it looks like i'm up for a new motherboard. Thanks for the help
