But really, it's quite easy these days to get a Freelancer tag; just kill Freelancer NPC's to get your rep down and then double bribe them at Barrier Gate Station.
Self-correction: Freelancer NPC's are ridiculously hard to find.
' Wrote:I've never seen anything to that effect, and there's an official Mercenary faction (there were two, I believe). The only rule along those lines that I can recall was that Freelancer and other generic ID factions can't own a system.
There are at least 2 merc groups that use the freelancer IFF. The Pheonix and the Mandalorians both use freelancer tags with mercenary ID's.
Back on the topic of SC, I have previously thought about joining a smuggler faction if one did exist. The only downside that I could see is that any official (LPI, BPA, etc.) can see you coming from a mile away if you have the faction identifier infront of your name. In other words, they know to expect the smugglers to be coming to their system.
And as for the issue of the junkers.... You could always claim that the faction was always originally part of the junker faction, then they succeded to form there own group, but still hold some ties with the junkers. Also, of course there is going to be competition with smuggling, it is that way with all forms of trading. So if the faction was independent of the junkers, it would only be natural.
