1)To grease the wheels of role play-its annoying and distracting to have to scan someone to know who they are about. One SHOULD be able to decide who is a threat by their tag alone-I know this isn't the case in reality but big factions should set an example.
2)To solidify clan loyalty: to show the rest of the system that your faction has a common purpose and that every member has that purpose in mind with every action they take. Tags are derived from your behavior in game so if you carry a certain ID but your tag says otherwise then that tells me you aren't commited to your job.
3)It looks cool when tags are uniform for everyone.
Faction affiliation is an ungainly Freelancer system that was not designed with large scale muliplayer gaming in mind. The mod builders have modified it to make it easier to use but it is still difficult to deal with. Its a pain in the patoody I know...but it is a pain I am willing to put you all through HAHAHAHA.
Finally one more to see it as some of us do!
And - you forgot to mention - a lot easier to identify your clanmates.
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
Thanks Orrin, as Night says ... You get the point of Igiss's work, and gaining affiliation is all part of the roleplay
This was never a server where things are handed to you on a plate, just have to do a bit of work here, makes
