Hello disconites. I gots me another problem. I tried to install Age of Empires 3: The War Chiefs today. Thing is, when I boot up the setup it only says play and uninstal. It must be installed then, right? Nope. I try playing, it says this:
(basically, game folder doesn't exist, apparently)
So I try uninstalling it. Now it says this:
I searched for the game folder and it doesn't exist. It's still shows as installed though... I can't uninstal, I cant play and I cant do a fresh install either... So, any advice on how to make this thing work?
PS: Before you ask, all these games are original and store-bought.
Execute a registry cleaner. You might have lost references in registry about an old installation, pointing to folders or uninstall files no longer present.
Also remember you have to execute any registry cleaner several times, till the detected errors drops down to zero. As you will delete certain entries, others will loose their targets.
A registry cleaner, whilst all well and good, won't target a specific application.
If you download and install the trial of TotalUninstall (http://www.martau.com/ - it's good for 14 days, afterwars, you need to pay to use it, but it saved my Silverlight install troubles earlier this year).
(before you go any further, backup any AoE3 saves to another place).
Then uninstall anything AoE3 related in the uninstall list in the Total uninstall tool, selecting complete uninstall).
The nice thing aobut this tool is that it attacks any relevant registry entries and stray files that were present in the directory of Explorer.
Afterwards, your PC will forget that it ever had AoE3. Install the standard,AoE3, then WarChiefs, and migrate the saves accross to the original location.
Hope this works for you:)

Tathrim
