This is my first post, and I have not read every single one out there so if I'm covering old ground sorry.
Is there anything anybody can do to modify the speeds of ship in this game, and if so would it not make since to make light fighters have fastest impulse, Dreadnought slowest, and dreadnoughts fastest cruise while light fighter have slowest. With exceptions to the rule for a few verious ships maybe. I just find it takes from realism that a fighter cant strafe a battleship from behind. I love the game and the discovery mod is the best Ive seen, but I have seen successful speed mods else where. Next how about a zoom for larger vessels so they may take the role that real ship of that size would in the Navy for LONG RANGE fireing, I'm talking 5K maybe, at least with missle if you want to rationalize that energy weapons disperse after such long range. I have no idea what it would take to make that happen, but if some one wants to take a little time to school me or better yet try it I am interested in hearing it.
different cruise speed?then is not possible to catch some ship.adn the distance,maybe it will be good,but think about that,what you can hit at 5k? fighter-no,gb-no,cruiser-no,bs when is with nose to you also no.because the fastest projectiles have something about 1600 m/s speed i think,so you have something about 3 seconds on distance 5k to strafe.
both ideas are nice in theory - but not too useful when it comes to gameplay and gamebalane. a zoom will only help you so much, cause the visible range of most stuff ends at 2k anyway. global explained about the cruise allready.
now what would be nice was a point-deep scanner ( instead of a weapon ) - meaning, you d have a greatly enhanced scanning range when you are pointing at your target. ( like instead of the 3.9k - you d have a 10k ) - like a scanner gun ... but i think its not really working - cause there appears to be hardcap on the scanner range.
i think scanners are limited from vanila,or something like that say me someone when i ask about bs licence which has typed 14000 scan range and 4000 cargo scan.but in game is that the same as disco scanner 10000/3500
I like the idea of a long range weapon system for dreadnaughts, what about an area suppresion missile. With explosive damage over a wide area, and a 5k range. It would force the incoming enemy ships to either engage the missile or scatter.

how's about a speed gun? Give em to the LPI and let em make speed traps:D Or the admins could use em to find speed modders ingame...
