I had an idea while trying to come up with ways to boost activity of sorts, in a different way than I can recall. So then I thought about making bounties, but not for the destruction of the people in question. Just the elimination of a portion, or all of their cargo.
It's basically cargo piracy, but another party pays you to do it and NOT kill the trader.
So I got curious and thought how would the rules stand on it...

7.1 All bounties must be posted on the forum. If you attack another player to claim a bounty and the bounty is not posted on the forum, you are open to a PvP abuse sanction.
Mercenaries, freelancers and bounty hunters may be hired on the spot in game to assist with a combat without a forum post. The other parties involved in the combat must be made aware of this.*
* Don't, like, be a mercenary hiring another mercenary to kill someone and then that mercenary hires you to help so you can run around mercenarying people. Or Cannon will probably delete all of your ships.
There can be instances where these cargo bounties can be enacted on the trader, without there actually being any combat. Right? So would 7.1 kick in for those instances?
So yeah, are there or have there been any cargo bounties? Though I can only see Mercenaries and maybe pirates claiming these from shady contacts.
if you can NOT kill the trader, he will just run and you cant shoot him. small flaw when talking from iRP perspective, but ... oorp and game mechanics will make people just laugh at you.
Sina's KPT faction paid extremely well for information on traders running Kusari's embargo of Liberty. I'd have to look the bounty thread up but I think it was specific in that we couldn't actually engage them, just get the intel and pass it along.
I've offered payment for information regarding the miss use of Zoner tech on the OSI board before. Specifically one of the bounties was only valid if the person was still using Zoner tech. If he wasn't, I'd pay for proof he wasn't, if he was I'd pay for his destruction. As part of his destruction you had to explain to him why you were killing him, so that he might go dump the guns to avoid constantly being killed.
