To play fair, and shooting your target until he is almost dead so that he is running or shooting back before issuing a demand is a bit abusive. At this point, he's going to be running and shooting, because you have already engaged him and he thinks you are a lolwut PvP whore. He's not going to bother talking to you or anything, he is going to keep running.

If you want to make an omelet, you've gotta $#!+ your pants. Anyone ever tell you that saying?
Seriously though, to make money pirating, be ruthless and exciting. If you want to break even or lose money, go ahead and be boring and recite Hamlet to every trader. And if I meet you in my cap 8 trader, I'm not going to post in Kudos for the latter.

Fix admins.
Fair is subjective. You think it is abuse, the admins don't agree with you.
If the trader can't understand that the other player is actually fulfilling the role of a pirate, that is their own damn fault.
This isn't a hold your hand and pet the pony game. It is a space boat shooter game. If you don't like getting shot, you're playing the wrong game.

Shooting someone until they are weak enough that a Starflea could kill them without issuing a demand prior is not fulfilling the roll of a pirate. A REAL pirate wouldn't be destroying what he could steal. A REAL pirate would steal the ship, everything, however, Disco =/= real life, remember this.
Anyways, however you wanna slice it, shooting a transport to 5% hull before even asking for anything isn't exactly the most fair and inRP thing for a pirate. Look at it from the transport's point of view, you're getting shot by what you can only think is someone who is hungry for a blue message, who doesn't care about the rules. You're going to keep running and shooting at him, and it's going to either make the pirate kill you because of you shooting him and him not being able to issue a demand without being shot up, or he will manage to, and the trader is just going to go "Screw this guy, he's a lolwut PvP Whore, I'm not humoring him".

You'll notice when I made my first statement, I did say not to bring them to the point the NPCs can kill them. I guess in order for you to feel good you have to ignore certain parts of a post so that your posts make any sense.
You can't say what a real life pirate would do for sure. I didn't see those pirates near Africa steal the container ship. I saw them take a few of the crew hostage. That basically makes your statement dead wrong and moot.
You don't think it is fair or in role play. The people who get to say what is and isn't do. I am looking at it from a traders PoV. I run a very successful trading faction. I've encountered this tactic before. I've dealt this tactic out before.
Guess what? In all instances everyone involved had a good time. By the rules it is legal, thus if the trader thinks the pirate is ignoring the rules, he is ignorant himself.
If the trader decides to keep fighting after the pirate has ceased firing and made his demand, that is totally up to him. He'd be stupid to do so. He isn't in a position to do so.

You said this, but now you say...

So if you don't know what a pirate would do IRL, then how can you make the argument that he is RPing like a pirate would?:P

I don't see how getting shot to 5% hull before hardly any RP or the pirate demanding what he wants is fun... You're saying "it's fun to get almost killed before any real RP starts!" Now, I know you're argument is going to be "shooting is RP", while it might be, damaging a person's ship so much that in RP it would take weeks and millions to repair, isn't the roll of a pirate. A pirate wants to keep the trader trading, so he can keep pirating him, not put him out of commission to where one of his business opportunities goes away. While we may not know what a pirate would do exactly, a pirate is ALWAYS in it for gain, not running people off and terrorizing.
What is happening here is the roll of a terrorist, and a pirate is NOT a terrorist, and if this RP happens, well, it will just be another valid reason for traders to avoid Rheinland and metagame.
EDIT: Shoot, I know SOMEONE is going to say Unioneers and Xenos ARE terrorists, and while they are more terrorist-like, they are still pirates, and not Terrorist ID's.
