Well, I'm a laptop person, and my current one is getting slightly outmoded(despite the fact that I love it to death).
I'm looking for a Desktop replacement, essentially. Something with a relatively large screen with great media and gaming ability. While I was originally looking for something with around 1 Gig of RAM and maybe 80 GBs of Hard Drive memory, until I saw this new Gateway laptop which boasted 240 GBs of Hard Drive and 3 GBs of RAM. Hot Diggity. I realized then that it was time for a reality check.
I definitely want something with dedicated graphics, I do not mind the weight, reliability is a must, and I don't want to spend over $2000 on the thing.
What should I get?

Hm, can't say that much, since I don't know the prices for laptops in the US.
But I know that Toshiba laptops are quite reliable. Someone I know spilt coffee on hers, grabbed it at the (opened!) screen, carried it around and put it down really hard... she was quite harsh with that thing, yet it still works.
For a 17 inch widescreen Intel Core 2 Duo this Acer Aspire notebook is a steal at $750 .
I know if two people with them and very happy, the ram of course was upgraded later for a extra $50.
One gig of ram just doesn't do the job with Vista.
Well.. seeing as no-one deigned to reply to my thread.. let me at least help you out..
After doing fairly extensive research, talking to some friends, I've decided to go for the Dell XPS range myself, with the exact model being a configured Dell XPS M1530. It's not a full-on gamer's laptop, but when reasonably configured, it'll do most anything you need/want it to do..
I suggest you go to the Dell website (www.dell.com) and using the links, customise it to your liking. I did that and below are the basic stats of the one I've ordered.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache) Memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms) LCD Screen & Camera: High Resolution glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1680x1050) & 2MP Camera Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Hard Drive: 200GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Optical Drive: 8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability Primary Battery: 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
It's quite configurable, except for the screen size (15"). You can add a blu-ray drive, bluetooth, wireless cards, whatever.. all the options are clearly listed.
For the above options, I paid about CAD1.8k, so it's reasonably priced. The base price is about CAD1k I believe, minimally configured..
All of the reviews I've read (about 10, and from good sources) are quite positive, and claim that it's decent value for money.
I'll be getting it in about two weeks, if you want to wait that long, I can tell you exactly how it is..
There has to be darkness, before dawn can arrive..

Okay, you did choose the XPS. Not going to disappoint.
Elgato, if you have the cash, and like a bolder look, an ASUS G2 is your friend.
