The bridge of the Independence - a Corvo designed cruiser ship but built from the ground up as a science vessel, was alive with activity all over with several different crew members constantly checking readings and adjusting controls to bring them to their desired level, and upon the command seat, a well built but not overly-muscled man sat in a lab coat, holding a datapad scrolling through information, after a short while "Ah ha! so that's the problem with the handling! whenever cruise or impulse engines are fully powered the vertical strafe activates downwardly, hmm, seems the problem is external, a stay shot must of got through on that second attack wave when the shields became unstable from overloading" he sighs "I'll have to get a repair crew on that, now.. lets check for any other damage.. hmm.. seems alright so far, wait, oh great, the construction bay got damaged, guess I'll have to repair that myself.." pausing for a second before pushing a button on his command chair speaking into the transmitter "somebody from canteen get me a strong coffee, I'm going to need it, and have it sent to the construction bay" releasing the transmit button, "that 'exploration' trip to Omicron Major could've gone better, but we managed to get a lot of nomad samples, and quite a bit of weaponry, lucky the storage bay wasn't damaged, would of been a danger to the crew, anyway, I best get off to repair that machinery, knowing my luck It'll be the micro-construction machinery" with a huff he slowly gets up and walks to the construction bay, luckily it wasn't the micro-construction machinery, unluckily it was a large amount of machinery damaged, letting out a sigh as someone arrives with his coffee. "Thanks, It'll be a long day.. I best get to work then." taking a sip of his coffee he strolls over to the broken machinery, giving it a once over to examine how bad it will be to repair, before putting down his coffee and starting the long work to fully repair the construction bay after the nomad ambushed in omicron Delta including three gunboat class vessels and two large nomad assassin forces in Major, for a just built science vessel its seen a lot of action.
A small clang then a light swear comes from the insides of a manufacturing belt, the a hand sticks out where the majority of a body and legs are sticking out, searching for a set of tools to the side.
"Now.. where is that welder.. Ah, ha! there it is."
pulling the welding device back into the machine as he works for a few minutes before pulling out entirely, letting out a sigh after he sits up.
"So lonely here.. Would be nice if someone came to say hello once in a while at least.. guess that's the downside of being a scientist like me.. what's the point of working to protect mankind with new inventions if you don't get to enjoy it.."
He sighs again, getting up.
"Hmm.."
He pushes a button on the comms device.
"What's the condition on the strafing problem? has it been fixed yet?"
After a few seconds a male voice comes through
"It's been fixed, sir, we're just replacing a couple components in the shield generator that got fried from the over-strain on it."
Replying again. "Alright, contact me when its finished, I've almost done here."
"Yes, sir, over and out."
He lets out another sigh turning around and looking at the repairs, it all seems mostly repaired, just needs tidying up, which he begins to work on, putting lots of wiring back into the control box then replacing the side panel, which took a good half an hour.
"There, all in working order again, now to get a reason to use it.."
Letting out a huff as the comms unit crackles to life again.
"Sir, the shield generator has been repaired" We're all ready to go"
Pressing the comms button again.
"Excellent, ill be up in a few minutes, lets go see if anything else is damaged that we missed in a test run."
*pushing a button on the control panel on his command throne, Paul completes the message to the liberty navy*
That's one thing dealt with, now I just have to wait for Mr. Denton to arrive. I'll go check on the construction bay again. If he arrives before I'm done get someone to show him to me.
*and with that he gets up and leaves the room, headed for the construction bay*
A wasupu class fighter flew near the large cruiser ship.
"Independence this is Sapphire-06 requesting permission to dock, we have Mr. Denton onboard."
"Sapphire-06 this is The Independence permission granted proceed to dock one, Dr. Jefferson is waiting."
Slowly the fighter flew to the underside of the ship where a panel opened for them to dock into, slowly drifting into place the dock gate closed after them.
A short time later Jack is being led through a twisting maze of corridors much like the ones on Ames, "how do you people never get lost in this thing?" he asks his guide as they come to a door at the end of the corridor.
Denton and his guide walk in silence for a while longer through several more, seemingly identical, corridors. At last though they come to a door, identical to dozens of doors they had passed already, the difference with this door was that they stopped at it. "Is this the place?"
The guide says nothing and simply pushes the door open.
The door lets out a hiss as it decompresses after the guide pushes the open button, sliding open to reveal a decent sized construction bay with what could be instantly recognised by its creator as the Jump Hole Creator device on the main construction row, with a man laying down and the upper half of his body stuck inside the mechanics underneath, hearing the door opening he speaks.
"Hello? is somebody there?"
He slides out and looks up at Jack, smiling and getting up quickly.
"Ah! you must be Mr. Denton, its a pleasure to finally meet you, We've been enjoying examining your device, its a pleasure to finally meet its creator."
He holds out his hand for a shake looking obviously happy to finally meet him.
