I mentioned this in flood, but hey. It was flood, so I'ma post all legitimate-like here.
I understand why the auto-censor is utilized, but tbh, I hate it, because I feel it's overused to a fault.
As far as vulgarity on the forums is concerned, I understand the auto-censors use for the basic stuff like $-hit & F-u-k-U as an example, but I gotta speak my mind here: It's being abused. My theory as to why it's being abused is because the ease of the utility is proving to be an overreach of power in the spirit of convenience.
I've never been a letter of the law kind of guy & have always tried to be a spirit of the law kinda guy. IMHO, context matters, & posts that don't actually break the vulgarity rule shouldn't be judged by a bot from a list.
Trust me, I know what the spirit of Igiss's laws are, but frankly, eff the letter of 'em. It's not the staffs job to thought police anyone...it's their job to smack those who actually break the rules & Judge by the spirit of the rules within context of what's being judged.
For example: G-T-F-O in and of itself is not a violation of the forum vulgarity rule as the vulgarity is simply implied & not actually expressed. It's the context of the post surrounding it that determines the intent of the initials & not the initials themselves.
The self-censor feature is unable to take this into account & is therefore a feature that is habitually being abused as a tool of convenience
