You don't need to see anything in game. The devs will take care of that with some massive ret-con of everything so that it fits in with their plan for everything, and completely ignores anything (and everything) that the players do or want to happen.
Discover 4.893 - a new jump hole opens up suddenly right in the middle of New York and we find this huge system from the Sleeper Ship Antarctica - and charging from the middle of this jump hole come the new fleets!
The Penguins Attack and conquer all of Sirius. ...

Being on the complete other side of Sirius tends to reduce the chance of a military clash. Rheinland is not actually on the Gallic side (neither is Kusari, they trade rather than share their wars - only Bretonia and Liberty are truly allies like that), but they're not joining any side with Liberty any time soon. I wouldn't expect them to attack Bretonia either (in an official capacity at least...)
You are still at war with Liberty now and your ID ZoI allows raids - you've just got to take a jumphole instead of a jumpgate now.
It's still not clear how Rheinland managed to climb out of its economic bog hole in just 20 years and was able to construct a fleet worth mentioning. It should become Balkanised with selfishness taking over. Instead (perhaps because space Germans must certainly be as capable as they're today) they gloriously reformed, became powerful and managed to withstand every onslaught, be it from outside or within!
Oh, wait! The whole SP thing with the evil space turtles should never have happened!
It's as though there are two Rheinlands. One powerful with millions of ships around Sirius and the other one that can't maintain Westfalen. Disco chose to follow the nice and powerful reflection of post socialist real Germany, with a few leftist spices added, just to justify some peoples' rightist views of RM.
Now we're faced with two Rheinlands. One filled with diligent, hard-working men and women of true Germanic discipline and the other (perhaps even more fun) version, where people are mean, selfish, money-grabbing, corrupt persons, whose only goal is to indulge in earthly pleasures. The elite should enjoy a decadent life, while everything around should slowly be falling apart.
The latter version is much more likely and FUN. (WRITTEN IN CAPS) And don't say it's already there, for I don't see it. All I see is nice RM pretending that everything is great. Yes, they should pretend so, but the thing is that now everyone believes them. Justify 20 battleships from thin air or vacuum, if you will.
With that in mind, we can not stare in amazement at the things the Devs do, for they're only following the tradition of DA's original work and the current image of orderly Rheinland. Perhaps some RL players feel prouder that way. Or something.
