*jumps up and down whilst sqealing like a little girl*
I'm installing Skype and Xfire right now, got Firefox running and the like; now I need to do several things, namely:
Figure out how to install all of our dated programs related to FL (it's Vista).
FIGURE OUT HOW TO OPEN THE FRIGGIN' DISK DRIVE.
That's right, I have NO idea how to open the disk drive. There doesn't appear to be a manual eject; it says to press F8, but that doesn't work. Tried Ctrl+F8, Shift+F8, Alt+F8 and so on and so forth, no luck. Ideas?
To install the old Freelancer programs on Vista, just download Service Pack 1 and install it. If it doesn't work, reset your update logs in the Command Prompt (Code 800700b in Help, I think) and it should work.

I might be only 30 miles from being a Canadian, (as a fellow Michigander, you should understand), but as an American I would've much rather gotten the Asus something maheck that has an Nvidea 8600 Mobile, the Intel equivalent of the AMD 6000, and 2 gigs of RAM for $1,000 less....
EDIT:

Just like 2000 > XP? That's what the programmers were saying when XP came out, and then it was fixed by SP 1, just like Vista's processor and RAM requirements have been slashed by it's SP 1. If you haven't used it, please stop attempting to slander it. Vista is a fine operating system, and I find it better than XP, myself.

[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
You're thirty miles from being a Canadian? Well, that makes you practically a maple sucking puck slapper to me
While Alienware has the "cool factor" you can get really competitive and reliable hardware from manufacturers like Asus. But seeing as you've gotten what you wanted its a moot point now, lets move onto to optimising your system. Have you considered multibooting? If not you could be running XP and Vista without having to worry over Vista compatibility.

I don't get it... what exactly does an alienware branded computer have that a normal one doesn't? Because, the way I see it it's just a normal pc wrapped in a "cool" case and with an abnormally high price tag..

Alienware is a flashy high priced Gateway in camo.. They allright but so many far better gaming systems out there at a far better price.
BUT if it what makes ya happy.. then thats all that count :D
It's a good marketing department is what it is. I mean, where else am I going to get an illuminated keyboard?:D
And I'm not going to downgrade to XP or even think about multibooting until I get these two 2-Gig RAM cards stuck in the backside. Just running idle it's sucking 60% out of the gig it comes stock with...(and yes, it's 64-bit, I made sure of that) We're going to get along, this computer and I. We're going to get along well.
Now, I just have to get FL installed, FLMM, FAM, 3ds, hope my old Milkshape registration will work, get my music library imported-

Agreed, good to see i'm not the only one who has "decent" feelings about vista, i've ran into less bugs than i did on my XP computer i had when XP came out, both are good operating systems but i prefer vista.
So far I've been impressed, it's done everything I've tried to make it do (which isn't a lot, the RAM isn't installed yet). Though, they screwed up somewhere and told me the OS was 64-bit Vista, as it happens it's 32...*glares at Florida*
