Most jumpholes are in asteroid fields, try get that into a field and out again:P
In actuality though, it can get into Jumpgates easily enough. If you notice, you can come at a Jumpgate from a very strange angle and you are simply 'sucked' in. So it can work.
I would advise giving it a faster cruise speed however, with a longer charge time to compensate. To negate the universal cruise speed, simply use a different engine, has been done.
Very bizzare looking--works for me!. Now I am imagining all kinds of ships parked on its deck--like the look.
Wish I could get the hang of modeling an texturing but so far it has eluded me.
I hope they can still squeak this in the mod--will add a lot of fun--huge hull, no shields!
I really like the idea of a really long delay to cruise speed--that was cool.
P.S. I think the lifter handles would look for realistic "offset". Have them interlock. The top of the upper Lifter arm would be above the top of the barge arm and the lower lifter arm would be sandwiched between both bars on the barge.
Great work--thanks! (I really would like to play this).
I think a lot of non-combat players would love to have their own little industrial mining and storage complex out there quietly accumulating wealth. they could become "rich barons" with favor with other players even. Also gives mercs some chance of employment...Protect my barge! Also gives repair ships a job. Someone could actually start a "repair" company now.
Here's a rough infocard (text mostly)--not final obviously.
infocard
MDSP (Mobile Deep Space Platform) "Barge"
In the far flung reaches of Sirius there is work to be done--grueling long work such as mining or salvaging that can be in hostile and high radiation areas. Repeated traveling back and forth to these distant zones can be unproductive so various factions have developed the "Barge".
Designed to stay on station for extremely long periods of time in remote and poorly developed systems, the barge is a slow mobile platform that can store vast quantities of ore and salvage. Armed only with a few light guns for salvage/mining and light defense, the Barge relies on its immense hull and nanobot capacity to remain on station.
With no thrusters and its prodigious size, the barge is to large and slow for trade lanes and nearly impossible to navigate through asteroid fields. Thus, it acts primarily as a storage depot and relies on visiting ships to purchase or ferry its accumulated cargo to ports for sale. Most Barges remain in space and depend on occasional resupply by repair ships to repair damage accumulated through collisions and attacks.
' Wrote:Ummm... you shouldn't say 1 million hitpoint hull in the infocard. The infocard's supposed to be entirely IC. Just a little reminder there.;)
Noted and changed.

Can it be made so that players can dock with it? I know it's been done...
it is possible to make dockable ships but there are a lot of tweaks and custom things needed to enable it. I don't know if it will ever be implemented here.

That would be awesome, and a massive platform for RPing. Maybe someday... <crosses fingers>
