I have thr star wars trivial pursuit and I also own a theatre movie poster for star trek first contact, I also have the blueprints for the phoenix that were given to those who saw first contact in theatres!
No Batleh though and I dont have foam ears or speak klingon. I have seen the vast majority of the star trek episodes though, maybe only 1/2 of DS9 or so, but other than that, pretty much all of them.
William shatner is hilarious, I have read his star trek memoirs and love his cameos. He has his own show on extended cable, I havent watched it yet but I have to soon.
Star Trek X sucked monkey balls, almost anything would be an improvement over it. I think this one looks pretty good, although it does kinda look like it will be a michael bay-esque action-fest without nearly enough (if any) political or social commentary, which is what star trek is supposed to be about. It also looks like Uhura and Kirk might hook up, which I really dont like as it could be very demeaning to the Uhura character and might detract from the whole first interracial kiss on TV thing.
I'm going to go see the movie this friday. I've been a trekkie all my life, having grown up on it. I'm just worried that, in order to find a newer, younger audience, they're going to **** on everything that the original fanbase has loved about the franchise throughout it's long history.

lol, my step dad took this friday off just so that he could go see the movie:lol:, he wanted to go see the midnight showing, but I don't think that is going to happen...
' Wrote:I cant wait for the movie, I liked the original series. The Next Generation I watched but it mostly sucked, I kept wanting to slap Councellor Troi every time she said "I'm sensing something" Didnt watch DS9 but I liked Voyager and Enterprise.
Same here.. Dunno what's wrong with her, but each time I see her, I feel like slapping her... or using a shotgun to do a paint job !
Out of the various: Star Trek serials
Star Trek (Original), The next Gen, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise - I enjoyed Enterprise the most, followed by Voyager. I think they had the best mix of complex characters...
As for TNG, leaving the Troi, it's not too bad.
I hope the movie turns out to be good and that they haven't turned it into a teen movie (it does appear that that's what they have done from the promos)

What I'm hoping is that this movie breathes some new life into Trek. I started by watching the original series when my father would watch it during dinner and my love of it took off from there. I even own a bat'leth and know how to use it.
I'll be there this weekend, God willing.
After reading the commens - I'm feeling old.
I watched TOS - during the original broadcasts back in the 60's, NOT during re-runs.
And of course, I saw (and own) all of the movies, plus I have the TNG episodes on disc. TNG actually was pretty decent once they got past the first season. And for those of you of an age - Marina Sirtis is only 5 years older than I am, so she was a hot babe! (Even if she should've been slapped around a bit for being smarmy, but that's what writers will do for you.)
Oh - and I own copies of most of the shooting scripts, a Klingon dagger, a bat'leth and like Doc, I know how to use it. And just for true and total Trekdom - I have the Michael Dorn CD set about conversational Klingon and I HAVE listened to it and do speak some. (I hesitate to mention that one of the CD's I've ripped is the complete Star Trek TOS Sound effects CD, and I have in the past changed my computer sounds so that it uses those .wav files.)
As for the movie - hey, keeping the franchise - and the memory and ideals of what Star Trek truly was about - are the most important things. Star Trek premiered during a time when our country needed a show of a hopeful future. And it showed things that weren't shown or done at that time - addressed them squarely. Racism - Let that be your last battlefield; The first inter-racial kiss on TV - The Gamesters of Triskelion; Oppression - Bread and Circuses - and many other charged topics that I'm too tired to go into here.

Hmm, i'm not quite sure about this movie. Might be interesting ofcourse and an eyecatcher by the effects.
My Trekker time was along the Movies 1 - 10 and TNG. I lost my interest along DS9 and Voyager and have seen a few episodes of Enterprise only. Picard was the best Captain ever, thanks to Patrick Stewart.
My favourite movies are II, VI, VIII, IX and even X.
"Nemesis" is very strange. I was disappointed when watching it in Cinema, but after watching it multiple times on DVD i recognized it has a very good, but extremely hidden message and in combination with bonus material, even the story of "Nemesis" makes sense. Unfortunately its all not to recognize when watching it one time in cinema only.
Nevertheless, "Nemesis" has wasted a lot potential. The romulan story could have been really great.
