Onca, I believe X-Vlad's idea is that since he wants to be a unioner terrorist. Since his ID doesn't allow for terrorism, although the Unioners are supposed to be terrorists, he instead makes it impossible for you to respond in a manner that would avoid your destruction. Not every terrorsit should be a Xenos. I don't believe anyone has ever given him 100 mil, not does an RH bomber allow much room for loot.
Back on topic, Preon, this server is primarily RP based. however, RP doens't require PvP. I do think the server rules could be a little more inclusive, however. I also think that the server should be passcoded, on the grounds that one actually has to make a forum ID and hopefully read the rules. The ID's do help with the RP, but most of the RP takes place on the forums, or ingame as a result of the forums.
Joining a faction will make it considerably easier to fund your other ships/chars. This is realistic, as the average freelancer would have to make it from the bottom up, but if they join the navy (SF, RM) they would recieve some funds that would make their offduty time more enjoyable and profitable.
The Cause and Efffect gaming is also based around the forums. If you observe rulebreaking, you take a screenie and PM it to the admins, who deal with it according to the server rules. If you wish to travel a different path than the crowd, you must have the dedication to travel down that path. However, once you reach your goal (ie: zoner tag, large train, whatever) the rewards will be much greater than taking the easy path.

Preon...I know you are used to doing whatever the heck you want in other server's but here we have rules. And they are not going away I, I'm sure of that so sit here and preach about how evil the rules are turn red but they aren't going anywhere so drop it before this turns into a flame fest okay?
Yes. Some rules are mostly to address game limitations.. Like "No colliding with cap ships intentionally", or "No battleships while pirating".
The No PvP in NY rule is common to all servers for what I know. It's mostly a legacy rule because PvP in NY is not possible with FLHook.
Still, an anarchy tends to collapse faster than a society with rules...
I'm afraid that rules are a necessary evil on our times. It makes living a more civilized business... not some jungle like where the stronger survives using the weaker.
Rules (when not corrupted) are designed to make the place more even for all.
We can discuss our server rules if you want. But in the end you will realize that they are all (or mostly) necessary.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
I have to agree that the trip is less about getting there and more about the journey.
It's about finding your way and learning from your mistakes.
Your goals wouldn't changes, and your path would be invisibly(maybe not so invisibly say battleship encounter!) guided by the rewards and obstacles you cause yourself. You could still choose any path, but stepping out of character would have negative effects. Just as the rep system functions to open and close doors... But maybe the option to buy your "rep" would be replaced with having to undo you miss deeds(maybe missions). You'd have to earn your way back in to the good books...
I'm just fish here but that's the kind of "rules" I'm suggesting in The Chaos MOD.
Cause and effect built-in to promote role-play "loyalty"... Maybe you shouldn't have characters with different elegancies...
Again I'm just fishing here...
The point is that the inherent nature of the game would be such that you would want to fall in line with the role you chose because the consequences would be unappealing...
Thats not to say you couldn't change roles. In fact I think it should be part of the character evolution to change roles.
Grass Hooper: when you can snatch the remote from my hand it will be time for you to go.
Entertaining, for a while there ... Now rather a lot of unnecessary hot air for very little point, if you are actually
getting round to one. Though the labyrinth now, has gone beyond the pale.
English your first language ? I have conversations like this when enhanced by possibly cardamine, or definately
synth mary ... Chaos indeed.

Hey wait a minute... I'm not bashing this server, this mod, it's rule. In fact I'm not bashing anything. What I'm trying to do is have an intelligent discussion.... Make that very friendly informative discussion about Freelancer, Role Play and Rules.
I have played since day one. I'm not much of a PvP player... I'm more of a freelancer that says hi to other players. Helps anyone who asks and generally gets along great with everyone.
So don't go bashing me here. Thank you!
If you don't like the thread I'm sorry but I think it might be useful to people that get it.
Thanks Preon, that one makes sense now. Straight talking was all I was looking for mate. Serious subject
calling for a reasonable discussion of available possibilities. Your thoughts are appreciated, though alot of
people here do not use English as their first language.
Convoluted and labyrinthine ain't what we use day to day either. Be really great if we could see a list of
your proposals to be discussed at length. I'm a roleplayer as you are ... Encounters are to be engineered
with your character, not just going looking for the PvP element.
If you are suggesting anything that would improve this lessening part of our server and its current rules,
please go ahead. This is why we are here and listening.

With all good and honorable intentions, you are beating the proverbial deceased equine.
An application of Chaos theory to the FL Universe would tickle my Goddess no end; but you are preaching it to an "Algebra I" crowd.
You are describing the Sacred Chao in all its glorious aspects. You are describing what physicists are beginning to realize. The Rule is that there is no Rule.
We won't get into the Everet-Graham-Wheeler Model here, but it essentially says that what is "real", or what we "perceive" is real, is based on what we choose to see, to model, to create internally and project externally, in our role and function as the "Observer", who unwittingly becomes the "Creator".
Speaking of babble.. your pardon.
We have ignored the lessons of Nature. Of self-regulating systems. We have established that the "rule" is more important and sacrosanct than the system it attempts to regulate. Not workin'? Add another rule.
Goddess feels your pain, Preon.
If this helps any, Eris has deemed you worthy to be an Acolyte of the Church. Report to Freeport 6 for training and assigment to an ELF Church and Epopt. The Chao needs ya, lad. ::end blatant recruiting spiel::
