Black and White 1 was much better than Black and White 2. The way Black and White 1 worked was just a lot different. It's a lot like playing B&W 2 as evil, but instead of conquering you gain a village's favor. There's a lot more micromanaging, too, and without a well trained creature it got really, really difficult (as in, sometimes you'd go do a sidequest and you'd find your creature forgot to feed your worshipers with a food miracle, making it impossible for you to defend your village against the fireballs which periodically came into your village because you didn't have enough favor for a shield miracle, or something of that sort).
Multiplayer is really good, though, and I've always had good fun playing the game in any form. Maybe it was just because I played it before B&W 2 that I think it's better, but I honestly think it is.
Also, I totally always got the Monkey, taught him miracles, then got the Zebra. Coolest creature right there. He was either all rainbow or a real mean-lookin' fella, which both looked awesome!

Rainbow turtle ftw. 1 was vastly superior to me, even with the glitches (like enemy creatures surviving on 100% dmg/hunger while on fire. >.>)
The second game removed all the fun creature ai imo. I mean, no more creature wandering off to watch the ocean, or getting confused about your alignment, or the fun of teaching it miracles. It got turned into a robot. Which removed all the fun for me.
Though if you've not played 1, two is still a good game in it's own right, even with the disappointing lack of creature, the perks such as no more workshop do make scaffolding and the much improved city building and even the fighting bring it back...
Well worth getting black and white 1 imo.
Now if only they could mix bw1 creature with bw2 building/fighting/graphics... Mmm

I agree, 'buying' miracles for your creature was about 1000% less-fun than trying to teach it lightning and setting on fire/electrocuting the poor thing accidentally.
I just finished B&W 1 today...
It was great. I really love this game. About B&W 2 - I don't know much about that game, just played the demo ... and ... I didn't like it as much as part 1.
I finished the last World after playing the game for three days now...Just couldn't stop playing...
First time I tried to be "good" and do only "good" things to conquer the worlds.
I must say, it's damn hard to not use bad spells and stuff to win the game. Almost went insane in the fifth world. The last village was impossible to get so...I had to burn it down.
I like training my creature - though I wished it would be a bit faster.
I like how the other villages join your land once they "believe in you". - I missed that in the BW2 Demo. But, I like the armys in BW2...
I don't get it, why the game changed that much in BW2?
It was good and now...they changed it?
Anyway - I didn't buy BW2, since I didn't really like the Demo.
