The only NPCs worth anything are groups of VHFs and battleships. NPC cruisers and gunboats are useless.
And seriously, this whining about 'balance' between the Outcasts and Corsairs has gotten pretty silly when people are starting to complain about one home system being more defensible than the other.
Corsairs bailed out of the Hispania early, so they're stuck with their crappy system.

Hahaha!
I'm not complaining personally, I just think it would look cool. And Gamma is a good system, having a lot of natural resources suited for shipcraft... it just doesn't have much food. Bugger.
I do think the Corsairs should get some sort of cap patrols, if only because they are to most intents and purposes the 6th House, and everyone else gets them in spades.

Yeah, might as well.
But the whole thing about changing around jumpholes...
Then only around, say, Tripoli, if you ask me. 'Cast has them around their base, 'Sairs around theirs. Not the planets. If we'd put cap/bomber/whatever patrols trough the entire Gamma system, we'd be having this discussion about omicron Alpha in a matter of seconds.
As for the jump holes, see it this way : Alpha can be attacked from all sides, Gamma can't.
Allso, Gamma has this dreaded astroid field surrounding its jump holes, that allso reduces the capital ships used.
I'm really surprised it wasn't me alone who thought Outcasts had their systems pimp'd ...
Well - what could be done for the Corsairs...
Those 4 systems in their back yard could get edited, Their guard place ESPECIALLY (Cuz omi 85 even breaks todays rules as for design... ah well, lex retro non agit)
Eta is a nice idea - despite lengthening a smuggler's way a lot...
Now - if I was an Outcast, willing to hit Gamma - I'd proceed from 2 directions - one through nomad space and Iota, second force straight thru Theta and 41. The defenders would get cornered and their only possibility of withdrawal would be those 4 empty syetems behind Gamma - trap...
Outcasts have a lot of places to go - Beta is a nice connection to the sigmas - there they can simply disperse and vanish. The nomad places offer such possibilities as well. Not to mention omicron 82 and 85. I'm really glad 101st and Ros have shown some honour and never used the place like HF once did with Vespucci (Monterrey fortress)
One more thing - economics.
I know for a fact, that drugs probably fetch a better and more stabile price than artifacts... but why the bleep did Crete get deprived of its best (and only) export good? If that is to stay - fine, but seriously I'd consider improving the artifact drop rates in the asteroid fields to compensate this.

Don't say Kappa is useless. Its the 'on-ramp' to the highway through Delta all the way to New York. Its used ALOT and provides access to the Nomad systems. And to Omega-41, well Corsairs control that system already, and what Outcast ever invades Gamma from Omega-41?
We have Omega-41, Theta, and Kappa. Alpha has Tau-37, Eta, Omicron-90 and Beta. 3 and 4, all other JHs are to guard systems. So really, Alpha has more exits. So it balances out in the end. Plus Alpha is more secluded from trade routes. Theta is two jumps away instead of 1, and Omega-41 is 3. And they have to go through Gamma just to get to Kappa. That leaves Tau-37, not a great place for trade, and Eta, which is nothing but a thing that adds distance between Alpha and Theta. Oh and Beta, which is their only decent short-range exit.
